SAVAC is the Student Association Volunteer Ambulance Corps of Oswego, Inc. SAVAC was formed in 1971 and is the first fully student run ambulance corps in the nation.

SAVAC is the primary EMS provider for the State University of New York at Oswego. SAVAC is a New York State Department of Health certified Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulance. SAVAC also provides mutual aid support to the Oswego City Fire Department and the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department. SAVAC’s ambulance is staffed by at least one NYS certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) who is trained as a SAVAC attendant, as well as a CEVO certified driver.

SAVAC’s quarters are in Mackin Complex, located on the east edge of SUNY Oswego’s lakeside campus. The 2005 Ford E-450 McCoy Miller Ambulance is kept in a state-of-the-art garage located on 6th Avenue, below Moreland Hall. SAVAC has over 50 members, and over 20 New York State EMT-Basics. SAVAC receives its funding from SUNY Oswego’s Student Association, and must work hand in hand with SUNY Oswego’s student body.

SAVAC is advised by former Oswego City Fire Department AEMT-Paramedic and the current Vice President of the Central New York EMS council, Mark Murray, as well as University Police Officer Scott, and University Police Officer VanAntwerp. Members are trained first and foremost by experienst crew members, as well as past members who have gone on to continue serving the comunity with agencies such as the Oswego City Fire Department, Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department, NAVAC, NOCA, and NOVA. Every year, top SAVAC members travel to the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation (NCEMSF) conference to train with other collegiate agencies from across the country. SAVAC is a gateway to the EMS world, sending many members on to professional positions within Emergency Medical Services and Fire Departments across the state and country.
