April 27 is my Father's Day. On that date in 1996, four presidents, five first ladies, General Colin Powell, hundreds of elected officials, and thousands of leaders from churches, corporations, and charities convened in Philadelphia for the Presidents' Summit on Volunteerism.

They pledged big efforts on youth mentors, child health services, reading tutors -- and on and on. Of course, such efforts don't just happen. The idea was George Romney's.
