Swartz also focused on sociology, civic awareness and activism. In 2010 he was a member of the Harvard University Center for Ethics. He cofounded the online group Demand Progress (which recently voiced its support for Richard O'Dwyer) and later worked with US and international activist groups Rootstrikers and Avaaz.

GOP Senate hopeful Mitt Romney yesterday reversed his position and offered to negotiate the settlement of an Indiana labor strike, but his gesture sparked a flare-up of union and campaign charges.
With a half-dozen of the striking workers gathered outside his venture capital office at Copley Place, Romney sent word to the group that he would meet them at a motel room in Newton "to find some common ground that would break the impasse and get people back to work."
