Swartz also focused on sociology, civic awareness and activism. In 2010 he was a member of the Harvard University Center for Ethics. He cofounded the online group Demand Progress (which recently voiced its support for Richard O'Dwyer) and later worked with US and international activist groups Rootstrikers and Avaaz.

Far from any corporate boardroom or strike-plagued factory, workers from Indiana met face-to-face yesterday with Republican US Senate nominee Mitt Romney, on the edge of an East Boston wetland.
Romney was there waiting to march in the annual Columbus Day parade when the strikers from an Ampad plant in Marion, Ind., who have been dogging his campaign for days, challenged him to to meet with them "one-on-one" -- without any consultants or labor officials accompanying either side.
Ampad is principally owned by Bain Capital, the venture capital firm Romney ran before taking a leave of absence to run against Sen. Edward Kennedy.
