About

From the global pandemic to worsening climate crises to the technology we use every day, science plays as essential role in our lives. The Association of Science Communicators (ASC, formerly Science Talk) is a professional organization creating connections to meet the needs of the multifaceted science communication community. Together, we can better address the challenges facing our society.

Mission

OUR MISSION is to be the hub of the professional science communication community.

Vision

OUR VISION is for ASC to advance the value of science as a source of societal benefit and a basic human right.

We strengthen professionalism in science communications by…

  • Promoting a strong community of practice for science communicators
  • Supporting science communicators as they work to reach audiences across multiple platforms and media
  • Expanding professional development and certification programs for science communication practitioners and facilitators
  • Building the professionalization of science communicators as a field
  • Creating connections between scientists and communications professionals

Audience

ASC serves a wide spectrum of people across the full range of their careers.

This includes full-time communications and outreach professionals, scientists developing their communications capabilities, and science of science communications researchers. Members are formal and informal education program developers, public information officers, academics, museum, zoo, and park interpreters, and practitioners of all types. We also support content creators and social media influencers – science writers, producers, podcasters, bloggers, artists and performers of all kinds sharing science and scicomm on digital media platforms, in galleries and exhibits, on stages or in marketplaces, both real and virtual.

Programming

  • SCIENCE TALK, our annual conference held every spring
  • #SciCommMake science-art collaboration, co-sponsored by Sigma Xi
  • An ASC member Slack channel for networking, discussion and sharing opportunities
  • A volunteer-run science communication blog
  • Online courses and training opportunities
  • Partner events

As a volunteer-run non-profit, we’re always on the lookout for more volunteers, blog contributors and course instructors. Are you interested in starting an ASC regional chapter in your area? We have more information on that coming soon too, but in the meantime, feel free to contact us!
