Ryan Finnigan joined Walsall on loan from Blackpool
League Two leaders Walsall had to dig deep to see off bottom side Newport County in south Wales after recovering from an early scare.
The hosts took a 16th-minute lead through Kai Whitmore, but a minute later Daniel Kanu levelled and Ryan Finnigan then put the visitors ahead.
Finnigan's second put Walsall in control before Gerard Garner scored from close range to reduce the hosts' deficit just before half-time.
However, Rico Browne netted seven minutes after the restart to restore Walsall's two-goal advantage and they held on to win 4-2.
