Our Members

Everyone is welcome to join the British Printing Society — all you need is an interest in print.

It Takes All Sorts

Most of our members these days have come to printing later in their careers, many are practising artists or graphic designers. Some have just picked up some type in a sale and are wondering what on earth to do with it. And then we have our more experienced members who have spent a lifetime in the printing industry and share their knowledge supportively and willingly. Everybody adds something to what William Brace, who started the British Printing Society in 1944 dubbed ‘A Society of Friends’.

Your fellow BPS members can help you navigate your way through the early steps of printing. Photo by Dulcie Fulton (Mostly Flat).

Forty plus years have passed since I joined the BPS as a seventeen year old. During that time I’ve made a number of lifelong friends through the camaraderie of the society, and this is its greatest asset.

  • Need some information about a certain typeface? We’ve got that.
  • Don’t know your founts from your fonts? No problem.

Elizabeth Fraser

I am Elizabeth Fraser aka Frauhaus. I work best when happy and full of many cups of tea. Some of my prints are colourful, lighthearted and not very profound, occasionally bordering on ‘quirky'. Others are a bit more thoughtful and often sciency.

Simon Trewin

I enjoy mixing up old wood type, metal type, vintage cuts and new polymer plates to create work that has a sense of style and/or a sense of humour at the heart of it.
