Biography: Sally Jessy Raphael is an American talk show host. She is best known for hosting "Sally" (originally called "The Sally Jessy Raphael Show"), where she discussed relationship problems and offered advice. Raphael is recognized for her trademark oversized red-framed glasses.
Raphael started out working as a news correspondent for the Associated Press and United Press International, as well as in radio and television in Puerto Rico and Miami. She met and became friends with talk show host Larry King while working in Miami.
In the early 1980s, Raphael hosted a radio call-in advice show that gained her a loyal fan base. Encouraged by Phil Donahue, she was given a chance to host her own TV show, "The Sally Jessy Raphael Show," which premiered in 1983. The show, later shortened to "Sally," ran until 2002, making her one of the most successful talk show hosts of her time.
Raphael has been married twice. Her first marriage to Andrew Vladimir, with whom she had two daughters, ended in divorce after five years. She then married Karl Soderlund in 1962, who later became her manager, and they had one son together. They were married for 58 years until Soderlund's death in 2020.
