Low Level Assignments (each assignment is worth 5 points each/ maximum


number of points that can be achieved is 150)

To receive credit each assignment must be completed with 90% accuracy

1. Complete All Discussion Questions for The Giver (5 points per section). All
responses must be written in complete sentences and saved in network
folder. (40 points total)
2. Complete new vocabulary words worksheets for The Giver. Each word
must be defined and matching section completed and saved into network
folder. (40 points total)
3. Complete Cloze Passage (2- each worth 5 points) Worksheet
4. Complete Vocabulary The Giver Wordsearch.
5. Complete Multiple Choice for The Giver Quiz per (5 points per section). All
responses must be highlighted and saved in network folder (40 points
total).
6. Complete Word Juggle
7. Complete a Venn- Diagram comparing and contrasting The Community to
ours.
8. Create and illustrate the scene from chapter 15 and compare the
memories.
9. Create a bar-graph/pie-chart with the music choices of students in class
(min-20).
Medium Level Assignments (each assignment is worth 15 points each/ maximum
number of points is 105)

1. Create a blog as your assigned character and create a series of blog entries:
a. There must be two blog entries completed each week
b. The blog will be created by each pair of students
c. Responses must be a complete paragraph and provide insight as the
character that you were selected to portray.
d. Must complete 8 entries
2. Create a map of the Community. Draw the map and highlight important
parts of the community that relate to the main conflict in the story.
a. The entry will be video taped and uploaded to your blog.
b. The video will be narrated and must be at least 30 seconds.
3. Complete the Plot line for The Giver
4. Using glogster- create a poster (maximum number of posters 2)
a. A memory that you would give to Jonas. Write a 2 paragraph
summary of the memory using sensory details (must highlight each
sensory detail) and figurative language
b. A color that is important to you glogster- and poem (see hand out)
c. A poster that shows how important color can be (a black and white
poster). Write 2 paragraphs explaining what the world would be like
without color.
d. A poster that shows how important music can be (not an artist- a
genre of music). Write 2 paragraphs explaining what the world
would be like without music.
e. A memory that was given to Jonas by The Giver. Write a 2 paragraph
summary explaining how this memory is significant to the story.
5. Characterization Chart (see handout)
6. Use animoto to create a memory that should be given to Jonas. Write a 2
paragraph essay explaining why this memory would be an important one to
have.
High Level Assignments (each assignment is worth 45 points; every student must
complete at least One assignment)

1. Write a compare and contrast essay- choose 3 different societies and


compare them to the Community in The Giver. Make sure you have a
thesis statement, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion (5 paragraphs).
2. Conduct research on a topic and save at least two articles and complete
questions (see handout) on the following topics:
a. Censorship
b. Euthanasia
c. Genetic Engineering
3. Students will create a Utopian School
a. It must include a list of rules
b. Video commercial (on blog)

4. Create a different ending for the book. Many students do not like the
ending and this gives you the opportunity to create a different ending
for the book. Students are to describe what happens to Jonas from the
point the book ends on in a descriptive narrative (must include sensory
details, smiley face tricks, and follow the current story).
a. Include proper ending
b. 12pt font
c. Times new Roman
d. Title for the 2nd part
