Fundamentals of Operation: Brushless Electric Motor Open Loop Controller Switched Reluctance Motors

Stepper motors operate by having multiple electromagnets arranged around a central gear-shaped piece of iron. The electromagnets are energized in sequence, causing the gear to rotate slightly to align with each electromagnet. This results in the motor shaft turning in discrete steps. Stepper motors can precisely control position without feedback by counting steps. They are commonly used in computer peripherals like floppy disk drives due to their ability to rotate to a specific angle with ease. Universal motors can operate on either AC or DC power and are often used in appliances requiring high starting torque and compact size.
