Description of Works
1.1 The following method statement describes the working procedure of in-situ windows and
louvers installation for the Construction of Public Rental Housing Development at Lei Yue Mun
Phase 3 which includes the following trade of works :
(a)
Windows/Louvres Installation
(b)
Water Test for Aluminium Windows
1.2 The scope of works includes windows and louvers installation works as shown in the
construction and approved shop drawings
1.3 This text gives a general guideline for the execution of the works.
1.4 Detail of the procedures contained herein may be reviewed periodically and modified
based on the actual site conditions.
1.5 The principal methods described in the following sections will be subject to review during
actual execution of the works and may be amended by the contractor if so required. Any
major revisions to this method statement should be submitted to the Architect for approval
prior to implementation.

2.

Specific Materials
2.1 The following materials are involved and listed as follows:
(a) Aluminium Windows and Louvres
(b) Fixing and Earthing Lugs
(c) Waterproof Mortar (Brand Name)
(d) Caulking and Silicone Sealant (Brand Name)
2.2 According to the contract specification, materials forming the part of permanent structure
should be submitted and approved prior to the application.

3 Storage / Protection and QC Control of Specific Materials


3.1 The windows and louvres installation works should comply with the Project Quality Control
Plan.
3.2 The windows and louvres installation works should follow the construction and approved
shop drawings.
3.3 The windows and louvres installation works and materials shall be in accordance with the
project specification or otherwise approved.

5 Construction of Methodology
5.1 Logistic Management
5.1.1 Windows, louvers, fixing accessories and grouting materials will be transported by
material hoist to designated floor for storage before the installation and application.
5.1.2 All materials should be stored in tidy manner.
5.2 Preparation Works
5.2.1 Implement proper housekeeping practice with allowing sufficient storage are, good
ventilation, lighting and access to the working area. The working area shall be
maintained clean and tidy after each stage of works.
5.2.2 Working platform (including metal scaffold, kung fu platform and scissor platform)
should be erected with proper guardrail and toe board when working at height over 2m.
5.2.3 All electrical equipments should be inspected and labelled before use. All electrical
handheld tools should be from 110V.
5.2.4 Check the windows, louvres and other fixing accessories according to approved shop
drawing and material submission.
5.3 Windows/Louvres Installation
5.3.1 Set-out position, level and size of windows/louvres.
5.3.2 Check the dimension of structural openings for acceptable tolerance according to
the specification.

5.3.3 Identify the undersized and oversized openings and rectify the opening in
accordance with approved remedial proposal which will be submitted under separate
cover.
5.3.4 Erect aluminium windows/louvres with protective tape and temporarily held by
wooden wedge for adjusting the level, plumbness and position.
5.3.5 Install the fixing lug with driven pin in designated position according to approved
details.
5.3.6 Check the condition of concrete edge around opening to see any damage by driven
pin.
5.3.7 Verify the set-out, level and plumbness of installed windows/louvers.
5.3.8 Install the earthing lugs from windows/louvers to designated junction box locations
and check the conductivity.
5.3.9 Clean the gap between the windows/louvers frame and openings to remove any
loose materials and dust.
5.3.10 Conduct the inspection by COW.
5.3.11 Moisten the concrete surface around the openings.
5.3.12 Mix the waterproof mortar in accordance with manufacturers recommendation.
5.3.13 Bed the mortar into the gap between windows/louvres frame and openings
according to approved details.
5.3.14 Remove the wooden wedge immediately after the application of mortar.
5.3.15 Remove the protective tape and apply caulking sealant to the external edge of
window frames. (Workers must equipped with safety harness with properly fixed
independent lifeline.
5.3.16 Install the glass panels and apply silicone sealant according to approved details.
5.3.17 Final cleaning of windows/louvres.
5.4

Water Test to Aluminium Windows (Requirement based on HKHA Spec 2008)

5.4.1 Maintain the Windows in the closed position.


5.4.2 Conduct the water-tightness from outside by using temporary gondola.
5.4.3 Spray a continuous jet of water, at a nozzle pressure of between 210 to 240kPa at
approximately 300mm form the windows joints.

5.4.4 Move the spraying nozzle to and fro along the joints, starting at the lowest
horizontal joint at the sill then the middle horizontal joints, then the vertical joints
and lastly the topmost horizontal joint at the window head.
5.4.5 Test the joints between the window frames and the surrounding structure for a
period of 1 minute for every 2 meters of joint length, and other joints for a period of
1 minute for every 3 meters of joint length or on pro-rata basis.
5.4.6 Observe the whole water-tightness test from indoor. Tap the lowest glazing bead
slightly to check for water leakage or seepage.
5.4.7 All water-tightness test must be witnessed by the contractors representative and
CMs representative.
5.4.8 The window joints will be deemed to have failed where there are signs of water
seeping through the joints during the water-tightness test or within half an hour to
two hours after the test.
5.4.9 All the failed joint should be rectified by approved method (submitted separately for
approval) and re-test the failed joints until they meet the specified criteria.
5.4.10 Prepare and submit three copies of test report for water-tightness tests for record.

Safety Management
7.1 Identified Temporary Work and Its limitations
5.4.11 Safe working load for vertical transportation of material using material hoist will be
indicated and implemented. Warning indicator will be installed to control the
overloading of material hoist.
5.4.12 Safe working load for the use of temporary working platform including the
temporary gondola, metal scaffold, scissor and kung fu platform will be indicated
and implemented.
7.2 Interface between Site Work / Major Plant & Equipment
7.2.1 All plant and equipments should be examined before use and operated by competent
person.
7.3 Interface with Public and/or Other Stakeholders Operation and/or Fatal Zone
7.3.1 Install the movable barrier to fence off the working spot to separate the interfacing
works at the designated area.
7.3.2. Moving Machine should be fenced off.

(a) Provide proper access to workplace.
(b) Provide proper working platform to workers. If proper working platform cannot be
provided, workers should wear safety harness and fix to secure anchorage point on
independent life line.
(c) Communicate with workers from other trades if interface of works happen.

Noise Control
General construction works will be carried out during normal working hours (8:00am to
7:00pm) from Monday to Saturday, except Public Holidays. However, should the progress
demand for the works to be undertaken after normal working hours or on public holidays, a
Construction Noise Permit (CNP) shall be obtained as necessary.
Dust Control
Dust control/suppression will be in the form of moisten the area for minor concrete breaking
works. Debris material shall be cleaned and removed off site on daily basis.
Tarpaulin cover shall be provided to the temporary storage of the excavated material before
dumping off site.
Construction Refuse
Construction refuse will be collected on a regular basis as illustrated in the Waste
Management Plan.
For the disposal of construction and demolition waste off site, the agreed trip tickets system
shall be strictly followed. Construction wastes will be properly sorted before leaving the
construction site.
Water Pollution
De-silting tank will be deployed in the construction site for waste water treatment prior to
discharge to public. No direct discharge of wastewater into storm drains is allowed.
Adequate treatment of wastewater and surface run-off is required prior to discharge in
accordance with the approved discharge license.
Spent oil
Any spent oil will be placed temporarily in the designed storage point on-site. The oil will be
removed form site by registered chemical waste collector.
