Job Summary – Data Scientist

About us:

Gyan Data Pvt. Ltd. is an IIT Madras incubated company, founded by academicians from
Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Columbia University. Our projects cover a whole
spectrum of businesses, including: manufacturing, financial institutions, healthcare industry,
defence organizations and so on. Our employees work in the areas of machine learning,
statistics, data modeling and optimization and provide services for our clients through our in-
house tools. We are looking for engineer(s) to join our team. We have a highly motivated team
of well experienced and qualified individuals from IITs and other institutes and provide a
learning and nurturing environment for people to grow and develop.

Job designation: Senior/Junior data scientist

Salary: Based on fit and experience

Job Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with senior data scientists in translating high level client requirements to an
implementable mathematical framework

2. Assist in modeling complex client problems and identifying opportunities using


statistical, algorithmic and visualization techniques

3. Implement and test the devised algorithms in either Python or R

4. Create technical reports and executive summaries on the work done

5. Participate in development of in-house tools and libraries to assist other data scientists
and developers

Job Requirements:

a) Qualifications: M. Tech / M. S in Chemical /Computer Science/ Electrical /


Mechanical Engineering from a reputed institution preferable. B. Tech in Chemical /
Electrical /Computer Science / Mechanical Engineering from reputed institutions (with
excellent technical skills) will also be considered. Excellent candidates from other
engineering disciplines will also be considered.

b) Supporting technical abilities:

 Understanding of linear algebra / machine learning techniques


 Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages
o Python
o R
 Knowledge of an additional programming language such as C,C++,Java or MatLab is
desirable
 Proficiency in use of version control tools is desirable
 Technically sound, strong mathematical skills
 Ability to work with a project mind set – clear articulation of client needs,
understanding of project scope and deliverables, ability to deliver on time with no
compromise on quality

c) Supporting soft skills:

 Excellent communication skills (both written & oral)


 Good interpersonal skills , ability to work independently and in team environments
 Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to pursue exploratory projects
 Ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines
 Travel as needed to support business needs
 Strong prioritization and time management skills
 Willingness to take on new responsibilities as our business evolves

our office in Chennai but may also require visiting clients and working on-site intermittently.
