Trial and Execution of Rizal

Rizal was executed in 1896 for charges of rebellion, sedition, and illegal association with the Katipunan revolutionary group. He was tried at the Cuartel de España and executed by firing squad at Bagumbayan field, witnessed by priests, military officers, and hundreds of others. Rizal's execution was a catalyst for further violence during the Philippine Revolution as Katipunan forces fought Spanish colonial rule and sought independence after his death.
