moral standards. The soundness or validity of moral standards depend on the quality of the arguments or the reasoning that support them. Non-moral Standard • Society is governed by: – Values • Are the relatively permanent and deeply held desires of individual – Norms • Are rules and patterns of behavior that are accepted and expected by members of the society/team – Etiquettes • The customs or rules (unwritten code of practice) governing behavior regarded as correct or acceptable in social or official life Morality and Etiquette Rules of etiquette are non-moral in character and are meant to serve as guidelines for socially acceptable behavior. Violations of etiquette can sometimes have moral implications. The strict observance of rules of etiquette can sometimes conceal serious moral issues.
