Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities Reflection

Domain 4a Reflecting on Teaching: Throughout my whole student teaching experience, I felt

like I reflected every day. Whether it was reflecting after each lesson, having conversations with
my mentor teach regarding my progress or actually writing my reflections throughout the week, I
was constantly thinking about how I was doing and what I could do to improve myself. I said
this throughout my whole experience to my mentor teacher that I’m all for constructive criticism
and I welcome all the feedback that she has to offer because this experience is meant to teach me
how to grow as a teacher so I can take on my own classroom.

Domain 4b Maintaining Accurate Records: My mentor teacher told me from the start that it’s
vital to keep track of the student’s progress. I made sure to take notes whenever I could. After
each lesson or during small groups, I would really try to keep an accurate depiction of where that
particular student is in that specific subject area.

Domain 4c Communicating with Families: I didn’t have really get the opportunity to
communicate with the families often, but I did get to speak to a few of the parents on different
occasions. Since this was a hybrid schedule, a lot of the parents would come up on the Google
Meet and talk. So, in those instances I always kept the same professional demeanor. I think
maintaining a positive relationship with families is vital in order to help students grow,
especially if that student needs extra help.

Domain 4d Participating in a Professional Community: There have been a few times where I
got to participate in a few of the school’s events. There haven’t been that many under the
circumstances and I think on a normal basis I would’ve been able to meet more of the other
teachers but there are guidelines at the moment, but the school has had various themed days like
celebrating the 100th Day of School and Read Across America Week, where all the students and
staff got to dress up and activities were going on. I have met and attended meetings with the ESL
teacher, which is an area of interest of mine, and I plan on inquiring more about teaching ESL.

Domain 4e Growing and Developing Professionally: My mentor teacher gives me consistent

feedback that is always beneficial to me. I’m always receptive to whatever she has to say and I’m
open to other colleagues passing down information to me as well.

Domain 4f Showing Professionalism: It is really important to show the students that you are
confident and can make sounds decisions. They need to see you are the one in charge and
conduct yourself in professional way. Being a role-model for students is of utmost importance.
