I.OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of: contemporary Philippine
literature as a means of responding to the demands of the global village;
various extended text types; lexical and contextual cues; appropriate and
polite oral language, stance, and behavior; and use of imperatives,
prepositions, verbs, and wh-questions.
B. Performance Standards The learner transfers learning by: explaining the need to be cooperative
and responsible in today’s global village; using appropriate strategies to
comprehend extended text types; using lexical and contextual clues to
understand unfamiliar words and expressions; using imperatives,
prepositions, and appropriate and polite oral language, stance and behavior
in various information-sharing formats.

Activity

As the students study the given pictures, they will consider the following
questions:
1. What do the illustrations tell about our heritage?
2. Why is Philippine Cultural Heritage important to Filipinos?
3. How do we preserve our cultural heritage?
B. Development Understanding our own cultural heritage is the key in
protecting our sense of identity and bringing positive changes in the
country. As a Filipino youth, you can help strengthen our national
identity. No contribution is small. Its greatness depends on your
willingness to do something at present for the benefit of the future.
Regardless of individual differences, you can be a part of a uniting
world. But the essential question is, “How can you make the world
united despite cultural differences?”

To answer the essential question, the students will read the


selection, “The Universals” by Dr. Cleofe M. Bacungan.

Before reading the selection, they will match the unfamiliar


words to its meaning for a better understanding of the selection.

Directions: Match the word on the left to the word definition on the
right. Write only the letter of your answer.

1. Culture A. the act of coordinating; moving

4. Virtues D. a basic truth that helps you know
what is wrong and right

Afterwards, the students will proceed in reading the text. The
teacher will also play an audio-visual presentation of the selection.
C. Engagement Let’s Play BINGO!
The students will study the questions listed on the Bingo
Card. Based on their understanding of the text, they will answer
ONLY three (3) questions diagonally, horizontally, or vertically. If the
question they chose was picked and formed a pattern of either
diagonal, horizontal, or vertical, they will win the game.

D. Assimilation The students will answer the essential question in this lesson by
writing the common principle emphasized Dr. Cleofe M.
Bacungan. in “The Universals”.
Essential Question: How can you make the world united despite
cultural differences?

Afterwards, they will answer the following:


Directions: Write True if the statement is correct, and if the statement
is wrong, write the correct word on the space provided.

relationship with other countries.

V. REFLECTION The teacher will ask the students about the importance of
knowing our cultural heritage, and how it reflects in our daily lives.
