The final drive reduces the rotational speed of the travel motor (16). The output shaft (7) of the travel motor is splined to the sun gear (first
stage) (9).
The final drive consists of two groups. The first group consists of the three stages of the planetary gear reduction. The second group is the
output group.

The first stage reduction group consists of the following components:

Sun gear

Planetary gear (10)

Planetary carrier (1)

Ring gear (2)

The output group is described in the following manner: The rotation of the drive sprocket housing (13) drives the track. The drive sprocket

housing and ring gear are bolted together and supported by roller bearings (14).

The planetary gears reduce the travel speed. The travel speed is reduced by the ratio of the teeth on the sun gear and the ring gear. The

compact final drive offers a greater reduction ratio when the sun gear is incorporated inside the ring gear.

Operation

202 -8002
The sun gear is splined to the output shaft of the travel motor. The rotation of the output shaft is transmitted to the sun gear. When the sun
gear rotates clockwise, the final drive operates in the following manner:

(10) Planetary gear (first stage)

In the first stage reduction group, the sun gear causes the planetary gears to rotate counterclockwise. The planetary gears mesh with the sun
gear and ring gear. The planetary gears rotate around the sun gear and the internal teeth of the ring gear. Each planetary gear is mounted to
the planetary carrier by shafts, to form a planetary assembly. The planetary carrier rotates in a clockwise direction.

The splines of the first stage planetary carrier mesh with the second stage sun gear. The rotation of the planetary carrier is transmitted to the
sun gear. The sun gear rotates clockwise.

In the group for second stage reduction, the sun gear causes the planetary gears to rotate counterclockwise. The planetary gears mesh with
the sun gear and ring gear. The planetary gears rotate around the sun gear and the internal teeth of the ring gear. Each planetary gear is
mounted to the planetary carrier by shafts and bearings to form a planetary assembly. The planetary carrier rotates in a clockwise direction.

The splines of the second stage planetary carrier mesh with the third stage sun gear. The rotation of the planetary carrier is transmitted to the
sun gear. The sun gear rotates in a clockwise direction.

PPW
In the third stage reduction group, the spline teeth of the planetary carrier mesh with teeth on the outer circumference of the motor housing
(15). Since the motor housing is fixed to the track frame, the planetary carrier does not rotate.

202 -8002
Because the planetary carrier is attached to the track frame and the planetary carrier does not move, the ring gear rotates counterclockwise.
Because the ring gear and drive sprocket housing are bolted together, the drive sprocket housing rotates counterclockwise. This causes the

2 E
machine to move in a reverse direction.
