(1) Final drive
Each of the two final drives have the same components. A final drive causes the last speed reduction in
the power train and the last torque increase in the power train.

(6) Planetary gears
Hub (2) is connected to the spindle housing. Ring gear (3) is fastened to hub (2). Ring gear (3), hub (2),
and the spindle housing are stationary.
The axle shaft is connected to final drive (1) by splines in sun gear (4). Sun gear (4) is engaged with
planetary gears (6). Planetary gears (6) are held in planetary carrier (5). Planetary carrier (5) is
connected to the wheel.
Power from the differential turns the axle shaft. The axle shaft turns sun gear (4). Sun gear (4) turns
planetary gear (6). Because ring gear (3) is held stationary by hub (2), the planetary gears move around
the inside of ring gear (3). The movement of the planetary gears will cause planetary carrier (5) to turn.
Planetary carrier (5) is turned in the same direction as sun gear (4), but at a slower speed. Planetary
carrier (5) drives the wheel.
The final drives receive lubrication by the rotation of the gears in the oil. The differential and the final
drives use the same lubricant.
