Authentic, Standard-Based Performance Task in Earth and Life Science 1st Quarter of S.Y. 2021-2022

The document outlines a performance task for students to conduct a survey on geological and hydrometeorological phenomena that can occur in their community. Students will create a video or written report presenting their survey findings. The Philippines experiences various natural hazards annually, so raising community awareness of potential risks can help with disaster preparedness. Students will assess hazard susceptibility in their area, identify the most impactful hazards, gather local knowledge on past experiences, and summarize their findings in a presentation to share with others.

Authentic, Standard-based

Performance Task in Earth and Life Science

1st Quarter of S.Y. 2021-2022

Performance Standard: The learners will conduct a survey on geological and hydro meteorological phenomena that can
happen in the community.

Transfer Goal: Conducting a survey on geological and hydro meteorological phenomena that the community had or may
experience to create a report about the survey.

Target 21st Century Skills: Environmental Literacy and Critical Thinking.

Performance Task: Video Presentation or Written report on geological and hydro meteorological phenomena that can
happen in the community.

Engaging Scenario:
The Philippines is often exposed to different geological and hydrometeorological hazards such as floods,
droughts, landslides or mudslides, and ipo-ipo because of its geographical location. In line with this, the local government
unit is looking for a vlogger/writer to assess the possible geological and hydrometeorological hazards in different
barangays to help people prepare for the hazards that your community may experience. You will create a video
presentation or written report to present your survey about the areas that are prone to the effects of different geological
and hydrometeorological hazards. Your output will be evaluated based on content, organization of information,
information reliability, and presentation.

Authenticity:
Disaster Risk Preparedness
The Philippines was frequently visited by many geological and hydrometeorological hazards like floods,
droughts, landslides or mudslides, and ipo-ipo. For reference, an average of 20 typhoons hit the Philippines every year.
Being aware on the hazards that may occur can help us in preparing for the different possible disaster that the community
may face and to lessen the casualties during times of disaster.

Guidelines:
1. Assess your community for areas that are susceptible to different geological and hydrometeorological hazards.
2. State which geological and hydrometeorological hazards are most likely to have a drastic effect in your
community.
3. Gather data from your parents and elders in your community or your barangay officials on their experiences on
geological and hydrometeorological hazards and what are the ways that they do to mitigate it.
4. Create a video presentation or written report to summarize all the data you have gathered.
