A. Objectives
To determine the variation of inductive and capacitive reactance with AC frequency.
To determine the inductance of induction of the coil, L.
B. Apparatus
Function generator, oscilloscope, multimeter, connection wires, RLC circuit.
C. Introduction/ Theory
The AC circuit indicated by the alternating current is essentially circuits operated by either voltage
or current from an alternating source. An alternating current or voltage is one in which the
magnitude of either the voltage or the current changes and occasionally reverses direction around a
given mean value. The most popular and fundamental form is the sinusoidal waveform, since all
other forms of repetitive waveform can turn into composite sine waves. The sine wave is a periodic
type of wave thaat repeats at the same intervals.
A coil of wire is an inducer. If the coil is attached to the source of direct current electricity, the
resistance stays constant. However, where an alternating current source is added to the coil, due to
the production of back emf, an inductor impedes the charge flow of an alternating current.
According to the law of ohm, a relationship can be written between applied voltage and current flow
in the inductor as :
V=I x L
f= frequency (Hz)
L= inductance of the coil (H)
x L = 2 πfL
V= voltage (V)
I= current (I)
x L =¿ inductive reactance ( Ω ¿
D. Procedure
1. Setup the experiment as the schematic diagram.
2. Switch on the power of function generator.
3. Set the power to 5K and set the output.
4. Set the voltmeter to 20V for alternating current.
5. Set the ammeter to 200mA for alternating current.
6. Set the frequency at 500Hz at the function generator.
7. Record the reading of ammeter and voltmeter.
8. Repeat the experiment with different value of frequency, 1000Hz, 1500Hz, 2000Hz, 2500Hz,
3000Hz, 3500Hz, 4000Hz.

G. Discussion
ii) Compare both calculated value with the given value (inductor (8.2 mH) ) by calculating
the percentage difference. Explain if the percentage difference is more than 10 %.
