Part 4
Now turn to part 4, questions 22 to 26. This is the end of the listening part.

You will hear a radio interview with the actor Luke Evans. Good luck for the rest of your examination.
Decide whether each statement is true or false and put a
tick in the correct box.

You now have 30 seconds to look at part 4.

Now we are ready to start. Listen carefully.

A: Luke Evans, what an honour to have you on the show.

As an actor you’ve just been awarded “Man of the
year”. Why do you think you were given this award?
B: Well, I guess it’s to do with what I’ve achieved and
what I’ve done. But I also feel it’s to do with how far
I’ve come and where I’ve come from.
A: Well, where do you come from? What’s your story?
B: I left home at sixteen. And I know to some people
that might sound very young. But when I was sixteen
I had a fire in my belly and a fire in my heart and in
my soul. A fire that was ignited by the wish to live my
life, to find my identity and to be the most authentic
version of myself […]. At times it was terrifying leaving
everyone and everything behind to find a new group of
friends and to discover a community that I could be a
part of. I moved to London and that was the city that
gave me that. As a gay teenager with my friends on a
Friday evening we went out till my eyes would pop out
[…]. The beautiful, the scary, the sexy, the […] show-
offs that we’d all meet there. I finally found my people
in all colours of the rainbow. And I knew that I was not
alone.
A: So you’ve come to live your true identity then?
B: Well, over the years, it may have looked like I wasn’t
the proud gay man that people expected me to be.
But you know, to me, I was just trying to be my true
self […]. I never cared if everyone knew that I am gay.
I was trying to cut my own path and cutting your own
path means that you’re not walking someone elses.
Doing that I hope I provided hope to gay people young
and old around the world that may not have been
able to come out or struggle with it because of family
pressure or live in a part of the world where it’s still
illegal. […] I hope that my journey can provide them
with some hope. They should know that there are
millions of people all around the world that are just
like them and they’re not alone. You know, people are
often shocked when they discover that the actor who
played the bad guy in “Fast & Furious” who had a big
fight sequence with The Rock and Vin Diesel is gay.
Wow. Or that the […] womanizer from “Beauty and the
Beast” was played by a gay guy. Well, here’s some
news: Who we are and what we are and who we love
has absolutely no effect or influence on our abilities,
our ambitions and our talents.
A: Luke, thank you for being such an inspiration. I’m sure

Option A: A Travel Blog: My Adventure Holidays

Lösungsvorschlag:
Hi everybody, this is my blog about my adventure holi-
days in South America. I flew to Paraguay with my best
friend Lauren in November last year. The weather was
cold and rainy when we left Frankfurt. When we arrived in
Asunción, that’s the capital of Paraguay, it was sunny and
35 degrees C. We stayed in a nice hotel for a few days to
relax. Then we took a bus to the North of the country to
a city called Fildelfia. There we rented a small house. It
was a real adventure because both of us don’t speak a lot
of Spanish. It was a big surprise for us that there were a
lot of people who spoke German. It turned out that they
were Mennonites who have lived in the Chaco, that’s the
name of the area, for almost one hundred years. I would
recommend a trip there because the people are very
friendly and the food is awesome.

Option B: An Entry: Making Your School Environmen-

tally Friendly

Lösungsvorschlag:
I think my school is environmentally friendly because
all the students really care about saving energy, water
and waste. We recycle our paper, plastic and glass. We
turn off the light whenever we leave a classroom. We try
to buy bottles with a deposit so that you have to return
them. A lot of students ride their bike to school or walk.
We also do a run for help each year to raise money for an
environmental organisation like Greenpeace. I think my
school could do more though. We could start a school
garden and grow our own vegetables or create green
walls in our school – walls made of plants. This will
improve the atmosphere in our school. I think this topic is
important because there are so many problems. There is
too much plastic in the oceans, heavy metals in the food
chain and the weather is out of control.
