(i) a) An object of height 2 cm is placed in front of a convex lens of focal length 20 cm at a distance
of 15 cm from it. Find the position and magnification of the image. [3]
(ii) A ray of light PQ is incident normally on the hypotenuse of an isosceles right angled prism ABC as
shown in the figure below : [3]
a) Complete the path of the ray PQ till it emerges from the prism. Mark in the diagram the angle
wherever necessary.
b) What is the angle of deviation of the ray PQ?
c) Name a device in which this action is used?
(iii) Draw a neat labelled ray diagram to show the refraction of a ray of light of yellow colour through
an equiangular prism in the position of minimum deviation. Mark in the diagram the angle of
incidence i, angle of emergence e and angel of deviation. [4]

(i) a) A boy weighing 40 kgf climbs up the stairs of 30 steps each 20 cm high in 4 minutes and a girl

b) With reference to the terms mechanical advantage, velocity ratio and efficiency of a machine, name
and define the term that will not change for machine of a given design.
(ii) A simple pendulum, while oscillating, rises to a maximum vertical height of 5 cm from its rest
position when it reaches to its extreme position on one side. If mass of the bob of the simple
pendulum is 500g and g=10 ms-2. Find [3]
(a) the total energy of simple pendulum at any instant while oscillating .
(b) the velocity of bob at its mean position. State the assumption made in your calculation.
(iii) (a) When a body moves in a circular path, how much work is done by the body? Give reason. [4]
(b) Two bodies have their masses in the ratio 5:1 and kinetic energies in the ratio 125:9. Calculate
the ratio of their velocities.

(ii) A piece of stone tied at the end of a thread is whirled in a horizontal circle with uniform speed by

reasons for your answer.
(b) The music system draws a current of 400 mA when connected to a 12V battery.
(i) What is the resistance of the music system?
(ii) The music system if left playing for several hours and finally the battery voltage drops and
the music system stops playing when the current drops to 320 mA. At what battery voltage does the
music system stop playing?
