Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITY
Routine

Good Morning Class! Good Morning Teacher!

Before we are going to start our class discussion,

may I ask (Student’s Name) to lead the prayer?

Everyone please stand for the prayer.

(Learners stand and begin praying.)

(After the prayer)

Thank you. (Student’s Name) A M E N……...

Once again, GOODMORNING CLASS!

GOODMORNING Teacher!
Please pick up pieces of paper first under your
chairs (if any), arrange your chairs properly and
you may now take your sit.
(Learners taking their sits)

To check the attendance, may I call our class

secretary, how many absent students do we have
today? (Secretary gets the attendance sheet.)
Very good. Let’s give ourselves five claps class.
None, ma’am.
Reminding you all to our class rules:
(Learners clap their hands.)
1. Respect one another (turn off your phones, no
talking with your seatmate, no eating during class
(Learners listen attentively)
hours)
2. Participate and listen attentively during class
discussion and group activity.
3. Wear your facemask always.
4. Practice social distancing for at least 1 meter.

Am I understood? Yes, ma’am.

Very Good!

B. COLLECTING AND CHECKING OF

ASSIGNMENTS

I believe I gave you an assignment last meeting.

Kindly, pass your papers to the person in front of
you without standing. In a count of 5 all papers
should be in. 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
Yes, ma’am.
Are all papers in?

Now, I’ll be the one to check your assignment last

meeting.

C. REVIEW

Before we proceed to our discussion this

morning, let us review first our past lesson last
meeting.

Last meeting, we discuss about generating a

business idea that relates with career choice in
Technical Drafting.

Who among you here can give a brief recap on

what we had discussed last meeting?
Learner: Last meeting we discussed about the
Yes, (Student’s Name).

(Learners clap their hands)

Very good! Thank you.

Let give him three claps class.

Anybody from the class who wants to share what

you have learned about our lesson last meeting?
Learner: I learned that
Yes, (Student’s Name).

(Learners clap their hands)

1.

Excellent! Thank you.

Let’s give him a “good job” clap class.

In addition, last meeting you have learned how to

So, are there any questions and clarifications

about our past lesson? If none, then I guess you
None ma’am.
are now ready to proceed to our new lesson this
morning.

D. MOTIVATION

Now, take a closer look on the print out picture

that I posted on the blackboard.

Learner:
What cross your mind while seeing those print
out picture?

Amazing right!
Learner: The energy from the son reach the
How does the energy from the sun reach the earth through radiation ma’am.
earth?

Learner:
That’s right!
What do you think happens on the sun’s energy
when it passes through the atmosphere?

Did you know class, that it can generate many

minutes it takes for solar energy from the sun to
reach the earth. Learner:
Imagine it how long solar energy it takes sunlight
to reach the earth, covering an approximately
distance 150 million kilometers through space
that energy reaches the top layer of the earth?

150 million km = orbit of the sun distance

300km/s= speed of light or light moves

150,000,000÷300,000=500 seconds

Convert to minute

1
500÷60= 8.3333 or 8
3
Learner:
Therefore, it takes approximately 8 ⅓ minutes or
500 seconds for solar energy to reach the top of
Earth's atmosphere.

That’s right! Solar energy propagates in waves

from the Sun, traveling at the speed of light as
electromagnetic radiation within the vacuum of
space.

E. PRESENTATION OF OBJECTIVES

Looking at the picture, what comes to your mind

about our new lesson to be discussed this
morning?

Anyone from the class who has an idea of what

lesson we are going to discuss today? Yes Learner: Today, we will discuss about the layer
(Student’s Name). of atmosphere ma’am.

Yes, very good!

Let’s give him a “Kokak Clap”class. (Learners clap their hands)

Today we are going to discuss about “Sun and the

Earth’s Atmosphere”

After completing the lesson, the students are

expected to: (Learners read the objectives.)

Kindly read:

1. identify the different layers of the atmosphere;

2 .label the properties of layers of the atmosphere;
and
3. give the importance of the atmosphere in our
daily living.

F. UNLOCKING OF THE DIFFICULT

TERMS

During our activity and discussion, we might

encounter some difficult words. Let us first
define what are these words using the prefixes
attached to the root word sphere:

Exosphere – outside

Thermosphere – heat

Mesosphere – middle

Stratosphere – layer

Troposphere – change

G. LESSON PROPER

ACTIVITY

Let’s have a group activity. I want to group you

into 2. This portion would be the group 1 and 2.

Our activity this morning is entitled (Learners listen to the instructions.)

“Atmospheric Layer Matching Game”. Your
task here is to match different objects or
phenomena like weather ballons, meteors, ozone
layer satellites to their corresponding atmospheric
layer on a large diagram by placing cut out
images or cards.

After answering, you need to paste your work on

the blackboard. The first group to finish the
activity will be given an additional points.

This group activity is good for five minutes only.

Lastly, your group activity will be graded based
on a rubric.

(Rubric is attached at the last page of the lesson

plan) Yes, ma’am.
Are my instructions clear class? None ma’am.
Are there any questions? Clarifications.

Let’s start! Learners start the activity.

(After the activity)

Let’s check if all of your answers are correct.

(Discuss and explain the correct answers of the

activity.)

Great Job everyone!

(Learners clap their hands)
Clap your hands in completing a task.

H. Discussion
Yes, ma’am.
Have you learned something in our activity?
Yes, ma’am.
Are you ready to listen now?

ATMOSPHERE

ATMO -vapor
SPHERE/SPAIRA –sphere or ball

Earth’s Atmosphere surrounds our planet and is

mostly composed of air, layers of gases
surrounding a planet that held by the gravity of
the planet that need to met the two conditions

1. The gravity should be high

To hold the particles from the outer space.
2. The atmosphere should be low
Learner: A paper used in making drawings
If the temperature is low then the gas molecule
will not be moving fast enough to escape the ma’am.
gravity of the planet.
Look at the pie graph

In pie graph class how many percent in nitrogen? Learner: nitrogen 76% ma’am.

Very good!
How about in oxygen?
Learner: oxygen 21% ma’am.
Very good!

This are the two main gases that make up the

Atmosphere the nitrogen and oxygen. Argon and
carbon dioxide make up the rest. The total water
content in the atmosphere is about 0.25%, mostly
made up of water vapor.

What is the atmosphere? Learner: The atmosphere is the layer of

gasses surrounding the Earth.
Very good!

But, how atmosphere do why it is important?

Learner: holds the air we breathe; it protects us
from outer space; and holds moisture clouds,
gases, and tiny particles.

In short, the atmosphere is the protective bubble

in which we live a carbon dioxide needed for
plants to produce food, a thermal blanket to
protect us from solar heat during day and cold
during night, oxygen gas we breath that’s why
you can hear a sounds because of the air particles
in the atmosphere a sound waves, whether
phenomena and lastly, birds and airplanes can fly
because of the buoyant force exertedby air and
energy of the winds such as wind mills and sail
boats creates waves ocean current.

Now let’s discuss about layers of the atmosphere

Let’s start from the bottom

TROPOSPHERE
Tropo means change that’s why it change the
atmospheric condition because the air is never
still and continually circulating

- 1st layer or the lower most layer of the

earth
- extends up to about 13 kilometers (km) Goodbye ma’am Joyce!
- 75% of the atmosphere's mass.
God bless you too!
- 13°C - 50°C temperature
- Wether phenomena ( clouds and sky rain,
tropical storms, thunderstorms)
- Air we breath
- Temperature increases with increasing
altitude
That’s why cold at high altitudes
Example: Tagaytay, baguio or even in huyuhoy.

STRATOSPHERE
STRATO means layer a set of layer
- 2nd layer
- extends from about 13km to 48 (km)
- 50°C -15°C temperature
- Ozone layer is abundant here and it heat
the atmosphere absorb harmful radiation
from the sun
- 1mb top layer and 100 mb bottom air
pressure
- Air is dry about a thousand times thinner
than a sea level
- JET AIRCRAFT and weather balloons fly
- Temperature increases with increasing
altitude
Because it increased absorption of ultra violet
radiation by ozonosphere

Mesosphere
Meso means middle
- Third layer
- 48 km to 85 km
- 30°C at the bottom and -90°C at the top
- The coldest part of the earth atmosphere
- Most meteors burn up in this atmospheric
layer
- Temperature decrease with decreases
altitude
The oxygen level is very few oxygen level air is
very thin

Did you show a showting star class?

Actually they are not showting star but they are
meteors burning in the mesosphere nakalampas
ng dalawang layers because theirs no air particles
but if the meteriors get in mesosphere there is
enough air particles to cause friction and to create
heat that’s why lumiliyab at natutunaw o lumiliit
ang size the way they go down

THERMOSPHERE
- Fourth layer of the atmosphere
- 85 km to 700 km
- Temperature -90°C at the bottom and
350°C top or higher.
The temperature is higher because of absorption
of the short wave solar energy by
oxygen ,nitrogen and atoms.
- The lowest part contains the ionosphere
This causes gases particles can produce lowing
lights
- Aurora borealis(north pole) aurora
australis (south pole)
Satellite orbits, radio signals

Lastly EXOSPHERE
- Uppermost layer of the atmosphere or the
highest layer of which merges with solar
wind at its top
Compost of hydrogen and helium
- Extends 10,000 km into space
The pull of Earth’s gravity is so small in this layer
that molecules of gas escape into outer space.
J. GENERALIZATION

Class did you followed our discussions for today?

Now, who can sum-up our lesson? For 5 points!

Very good! Thank you.

Let’s give him/her an “Angel clap” class.

Who can give me the five layers of the

atmosphere in our discussion class?

Excellent! Thank you.

It is clear to you class the different layers of the

atmosphere?

If I am going to give you an activity which is to

label the layers of the atmosphere, can you do it
class?

K. APPLICATION

Why it is important the atmosphere in our daily

living?

Can you generalize the higher the layer of

theatmosphere (that is close to the sun), the hotter
thetemperature? Why or why not?

Why is this layer so important for life on the

Earth?

Yes (Student’s Name).

Thank you.

Let’s have another activity entitled “Let’s Do It”

Draw and label the layers of the atmosphere and
identify the things that commonly found in each
layers. Distinguish the distances from the Earth`s
Surface. This is individual activity is good for 20
minutes only. Your output for this activity will be
graded based on the rubric.

IV. Evaluation

For me to assess your learnings, we will have a

quiz. Finish the quiz within 3 minutes.

Assessment:
Directions: Read the question carefully and
encircle the letter of the correct answer.
