Information System

 Data system: system consisting of the network of all

communication channels used within an organization.

 A combination of hardware, software, infrastructure and

trained personnel organized to facilitate planning,
control, coordination, and decision making in an organization.
Evolution of Information System
 The Manual Process Model
 The Flat File Model
 Data processing is thus performed by standalone applications rather than
integrated systems. Records follow a uniform format, and there are no
structures for indexing or recognizing relationships between records. The
file is simple and can be a plain text file.
 The Database Model
 Access to the data resource is controlled by a database management
system (DBMS). The DBMS is a special software system that is programmed
to know which data elements each user is authorized to access. The most
popular example of a database model is the relational model, which uses
a table-based format.
 The REA Model
 Resources, Events and Agents (basic data collected)
The data are collected and stores in a database that can be used to provide
reports and financial statements.
 The ERP Model
 Enterprise Resource Planning is an information system model that enables
an organization to automate and integrate its key business processes.
