ABSTRACT
Here we are aiming to design and development of an Electronic Voting Machine
(EVM) Authentication using Biometric Information. Here finger print is used as the
Biometric information. The suggested fingerprint voting system allows the user to scan
his/her fingerprint, in order to check his eligibility by comparing his current fingerprint
with the one already stored in the systems database, this project is designed using
ARDUINO microcontroller and other associated peripheral like GSM module, Finger
print module, LCD etc. Once the users complete the identification process, they will be
allowed to cast their vote using friendly geographical user interface. The counting of
the votes will be immediately and that makes the voting process efficient, fast, and
secure. The GSM communication which gives the feedback to the voter just after they
cast their vote.

OBJECTIVES
 The main objective of the project is to use fingerprint scanner
for authentication purpose so that we can reduce fake votes and
also reduce the polling time.

 The objective of the project is to reduce fake voting and make

the process transparent.

4
INTRODUCTION
 It is quite familiar with Electronic Voting Machines, where the vote gets registered
electronically and don’t need to use ballot paper to vote in election.
 Today security is a major concern, and it also needs to be ensured that someone can’t
vote twice, so this problem can be solved by introducing Fingerprint Based Voting,
where a person can be authorized based on his fingerprint. This will also stop fake
voting.
 In this project, a fingerprint module is used for enrolment and authentication purpose,
and it is connected with Arduino uno. LCD display is used for interaction with voters.
 Voters need to act according to it. Switching keys are used at the time of enrolment
and authentication. Buzzer are used for better understanding with the system.

5
INTRODUCTION (Contd…)
 In all the countries, votes decides the future. For that, we are introducing the new
method of voting system to increase the standard of living.
 According to the current system, votes could be counted manually so that there is
more opportunity for occurring error, such as duplicates counting and completely
mixed counting.
 Sometimes votes are even manipulated and motivated by political patios which lead
to inaccurate vote and it will distort the results of an election in favor of certain
candidates.
 This device can be useful for easy to handle, reliability and accurate.

Machine (EVM) which helps in free and fair way of conducting elections which are
basis for democratic country like India.
 This project consists of following units a Voting system, fingerprint module and
Arduino controller Unit. The voter first puts his finger on the fingerprint module
which checks for the authentication of the user.
 If the voter is the authenticated one, he will now poll his vote in the voting system by
simply pressing button against his favorite leader through a button. The control unit
consists of a Arduino controller, push button for different operations of EVM.
 The votes casted for particular candidate in that particular section of constituency is
shown through an LCD display. To perform this intelligent task, Arduino controller is
loaded with an intelligent program written in embedded “C” language.

19
PROPOSED METHOD (Contd.)
 First of all, user needs to enroll finger of voters with the help of push buttons/keys. To

do this user need to press ENROLL key and then finger will be a store.. Now user

needs to put his finger over finger print module.

 Now finger print module takes an image and converts it into templates and stores it by

selected ID into the finger print module’s memory.

 The voter will be registered and he/she can vote. By same method all the voter can be

registered into the system. Now if the user wants to remove or delete any of stored ID

then he/she need to press DEL key, after pressing DEL key, select ID that to be deleted.

 The user needs to select ID and press OK key (same DEL key). Now LCD will let you

know that finger has been deleted successfully.
