Devices and
Peripheral
What are the devices of
computer?
The physical, touchable and
mechanical parts of
computer are called
hardware which is
composed of different
devices attached to a
computer.
What are the devices of
computer?
 System Unit
 Motherboard
 CPU
 Primary Storage

 Digital Versatile Disc (DVD)
System Unit
SYSTEM UNIT
The main part of the
microcomputer sometimes
called the chassis.
It houses the motherboard,
Microprocessor, Memory Chips,
Buses, Ports Expansion slots
and Cards.
Motherboard
Motherboard
The main circuit board of a
computer. It contains all the
circuits and components that
run the computer
CPU or
Central Processing
Unit
CPU
The main “brain” and “heart” of
a computer system.
It performs all the instructions
and calculations that are
needed and manages the flow
of information through a
computer.
PRIMARY STORAGE
(Internal storage, main memory
of memory) is the computer’s
working storage space that
holds data, instructions for
processing and processed data.
Two (2) Types of
Memory
ROMOnly Memory is non-
Read
volatile.
Data in ROM can only be read, it
cannot be modified or erased.
RAM

Random Access Memory is

volatile.
Data in RAM can be modified,
erased, or read.
Expansion Bus
EXPANSION BUS
This bus enables
communication and data
transmission between the
processor, memory, and
peripheral devices such as the
keyboard or mouse.
EXPANSION BUS

It acts as the central hub where

all components connect.
Adapters
ADAPTERS

A device or software component

that allows different systems or
compo-nents to work together.
ADAPTERS
It helps bridge the gap between
incompatible interfaces, protocols,
or formats, enabling seamless
communication and compatibility.
Power Supply
POWER SUPPLY

An electrical device that offers

electric power to an electrical
load.
POWER SUPPLY
The main function of a power
supply is to convert electric
current from a source to the
correct voltage, current, and
frequency to power the load.
HDD or
Hard Disk Drive
HDD

It is used as a permanent
storage for data.
It is usually configured as C:
drive and contains the OS and
applications.
Optical Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE
A storage device that uses
lasers to read data on the
optical media.
Three (3) types of OD
1. CD - compact disc
2. DVD - digital versatile disc
3. BD- Blu-ray Disc

Quiz 3.1
1. The main part of the
microcomputer sometimes
called the chassis.

2. A device or software component

that allows different systems or
compo-nents to work together.
3. The main “brain” and “heart”
of a computer system.

4. The main circuit board of a

computer. It contains all the
circuits and components that
run the computer
5. It is the computer’s working
storage space that holds data,
instructions for processing and
processed data.
What are the input
and output devices
of a Computer?
Input Devices

Devices that accepts data and

instructions from the user of
from other computer system.
Two (2) Types of
Input Devices
1. Keyboard Entry

Data is inputted to the

computer through a keyboard.
2. Direct Entry
A form of input that does not
require data to be keyed.
It creates machine-readable
data on paper, or magnetic
media or feed it direcly into the
computer’s CPU.
Three (3) Categories
of
Direct Entry Devices
1. Pointing Devices
An input device used to move
the pointer (cursor)on the
screen)
1. Pointing Devices
A. MOUSE
- the most common pointing
device used in PC
1. Pointing Devices
B. TOUCH SCREEN
- a display screen that is
sensitive to the touch of a
finger or stylus.
1. Pointing Devices
B. TOUCH SCREEN
commonly used in:
*ATM
*point of sales terminals
* car navigation
* smartphones/tablets
*industrial controls
1. Pointing Devices
C. Light Pen
2. Scanning Devices
A device that can read text or
illustrations printed on paper
and translates the information
into a form the computer can
use.
Output Devices
Output devices receive
electronic signals from the
computer and convert them into
human-readable forms such as
text, images, or sound.
CRT Monitors

Cathode Ray Tubes were the

only displays for use with
desktop PC’s
LCD Monitors

Liquid Crystal display technolgy

has been used in laptops for
sometime.
LED Monitors
(Light Emitting Diode )
Impact printers create pictures
and figures by hitting a device
such as wheel or print hammer
against an inked ribbon.
