Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Persistent disruptive editing of a biography of a living person in relation to WP:ETHNICITY. A note was even added for editors to stop changing it, showing that this is a recurring issue. (One of the recent edits removed it and I've since added it back.) I believe that BLP semi-protection would be beneficial here. Bizarre BizarreTalk modern to me 21:36, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: In October 2017, this page about a beloved British TV presenter was made "EXTENDED CONFIRMED PROTECTION" due to aggressive sock puppetry. I would like to see this page down to semi-protection due to little vandalism over almost eight years. Frankster04 (talk) 21:29, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

That's circular reasoning. The fact that there is little vandalism simply means the protection is working as it should. Also, did you follow the instructions at the top of this page and ask the protecting administrator? ~Anachronist (talk) 22:35, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Reason: This article about the UK boxer has been extended confirmed protection since a May 2018 spell of block evasion-induced vandalism. I’d like to see this page downgraded to semi-protection due to both little vandalism and his high profile (many high profile celebs' articles are semi-protected). Frankster04 (talk) 21:33, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Please read the instructions at the top. You're supposed to ask the protecting administrator first, but I'll do it here. @Orangemike: what say you? ~Anachronist (talk) 22:34, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
For what it is worth, I think this is probably a good candidate to reduce to SP. Dennis Brown - 00:23, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Unprotection: 15 years of protection with little vandalism or disruption and protecting admin is retired. Thepharoah17 (talk) 10:12, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Reason: Only 56 transclusions. Not enough for template protection. 2A0E:1D47:9085:D200:B760:276F:5BA6:1929 (talk) 10:31, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Been around for 10 years. A new page reviewer (see here) encouraged me to request the autopatrolled rights over my page and redirect creation record. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 22:42, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

Some of your given name and surname pages lack citations for the origins/meanings of the names. For example, the first sentence of Cencio has substantive information that requires a reference. voorts (talk/contributions) 18:59, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
Added refs for Cencio. I’ll be more careful about sourcing info in lists. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 20:57, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

The user has created an impressive total of 834 articles so far, with only five deletions. Given this strong track record, I believe they fully deserve autopatrolled rights. Thank you. Baqi:) (talk) 20:11, 1 June 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting the autopatrolled user right. I have created 96 articles so far, out of which only 2 have been deleted. Most of my articles are well-sourced biographies, mainly related to the Pakistan Army, with some focused on media personalities. I strive to follow Wikipedia’s notability and sourcing guidelines in all my contributions. Granting me autopatrolled status will help reduce the workload for new page reviewers. You may also consider taking suggestions from the reviewers (JTtheOG, John B123) who frequently review my pages, as they are familiar with the quality and consistency of my work. I tried WPCleaner and I like the concept, but WPCleaner had some jank and seems less customizable and polished than AWB. I was hoping to clean up typos along with syntax/formatting, and a tool like AWB seems much easier on the eyes for finding problems like that. hey so I was on a talk page requesting an edit to a page be done, no one replied so I got bored. I was playing around with my sandbox because I was bored. I made tons of edits goofing around. because I played around with my sandbox I was almost at 515 edits. I saw that and was surprised. I decided to edit pages that require extended confirmed access. And then I edited the page where I left a comment on the talk page because no one was replying. Immediately my extended confirmed rights were revoked. Someone said I was gaming the system to get extended confirmed rights, when that's simply not true. I was just goofing around with my talk page, that's all. Gaming the system wasn't my intention. If it was I would've stopped why did I stop at 511 edits or so, that doesn't make sense. And if I was gaming the system to edit extended access I don't vandalize pages or nothing. I make normal edits to improve pages, so can I have extended confirmed back please GloryToCalifornia (talk) 06:37, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Requests for mass message sender

Mass message sender

I am running contests like Wikipedia:The World Destubathon. It is a big attempt to eliminate thousands of stubs for every country and topic and want to invite a lot of project members personally with a message. User:DreamRimmer and User:Polygnotus have been very helpful, but it would greatly help me if I was given formal mass message rights as I will likely be running more contests in the future and need the easiest outlet to contact relevant projects and participants who would potentially be interested without having to spend ages doing it manually! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:51, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: If you mean inviting members of a lot of WikiProjects, as I gather from your talk page, then I think this would go against the guidance that

Mass messages should only be sent to groups of users who are likely to want their attention drawn to the message [...] For other cases, less personalized means of communication are preferred. Wikipedia's primary means of communication is through posts on article talk pages, Wikipedia talk pages, or various noticeboards, including the Village Pump. [...] To reach the members of a given WikiProject, a post on that project's talk page can be used.

Hi, I noticed there's a pretty large backlog, so I decided to volunteer. I've taken a break from my usual editing the past few days to get familiar with the NPR process. I’ve written articles on all sorts of topics, especially biographies, geography. I'm not comparatively active in AfD, but my understanding of various notability guidelines could be useful when reviewing articles. Thank you! Pasados (talk) 17:20, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting for New Page Reviewer right. I have been a Wikipedia editor for 8 years, created several articles and have also been a reader in AFD discussions. Through this, I have gained understanding of the requirements for a new page creation. I have also contributed to delete discussions and I have been known to show respect for others in such discussions. Would appreciate the opportunity to contribute further. Thanks in advance. Ataavi (talk) 15:57, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I will like to request new page reviewer rights because I want to assist in the reduction of large backlog at AfC, I edit some new articles at New Page Feeds, I participate in AFD, and have knowledge of deletion process. I have a good knowledge of content policies and guidelines. Chippla ✍️ - Best Regards 17:15, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

Not done. I don't think you have a strong enough command of how CSD works to become an NPR at this time; e.g. the discussion here earlier today. For any future requests, it would be useful to have a CSD log/PROD log — you can enable this in Twinkle. Giraffer (talk) 18:36, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Requests for page mover

Page mover

I first encountered a situation where the page mover permission would have been helpful when moving Michael Savage (politician) to Mike Savage (politician). Now as I continue developing content I ran into a situation where I need to move a ready article (Draft:Pottersfield Press) over a redirect I previously created (Pottersfield Press), and I foresee situations like this happening more, so now seems like a good time to figure out technical moves rather than continuing to ask others to do it. I intend to only use the page mover abilities for this purpose for the foreseeable future, and may start fulfilling uncontroversial move requests once I become sufficiently familiar with the process. Thanks. MediaKyle (talk) 15:22, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

@MediaKyle I'm not going to decline outright in case another admin feels differently, but I'd like to see more participation at WP:RM/TR or WP:MRV first (I only see one edit total between both venues). While your account was technically registered 5 years ago, all but 2 of your edits were made in the last 4.5 months. --Ahecht (TALK

Believe it would useful when making technical page redirects as I often do, such as moving James C. Ho to James Ho and moving The Proxmire Amendment to Proxmire Amendments. Irruptive Creditor (talk) 03:18, 4 June 2025 (UTC)

@Irruptive Creditor  Not done Please establish a track record of making accepted move requests at WP:RM/TR. Your track record there back in March was not great, with at least 3 moves not done and 6 of your other moves reverted. --Ahecht (TALK

@Ahecht, those ill-considered moves occurred during a brief and isolated lapse in judgment made amongst a flurry of moves, redirects, reverts, and other edits relating to United States immigration and nationality law, for which I quickly conceded that I was wrong
As for my other moves and move request involvement, most have not been reverted or otherwise stoking such fervor, see the moving of Clobromazolam to Phenazolam, the moving of 4-Piperidone to 4-Piperidone, the moving of Scott Act (1888) to Scott Act of 1888, the moving of Post Office Act (1872) to Post Office Consolidation Act of 1872, the moving of Suwanee Snapping Turtle to Suwanee Alligator Snapping Turtle, the moving of Comstock laws to Comstock Act of 1873, the move closure of the proposed moving of Assisted Suicide to Assisted Dying, the moving of American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act to American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act of 1998, and so forth.
Pleasant editing, Irruptive Creditor (talk) 18:55, 4 June 2025 (UTC)

Requests for pending changes reviewer

Pending changes reviewer

Reason for requesting pending changes reviewer rights:

To expand my tool belt as an extended confirmed recent changes patroller, and to more quickly afford new users their non policy breaking contribution. I have currently no sanctions against me and I think I understand wiki policy well enough for it. Thank you JamesEMonroe (talk) 20:02, 22 May 2025 (UTC) (Post edit) When using this perm, I will take extra care. I think I have met requirements in WP:PCCRITERIA and have reviewed Wikipedia policy. Also please consider older reverts as well or when I took the time to explain things to new users. JamesEMonroe (talk) 21:27, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi JamesEMonroe! I am not formally granting this permission (nor am I denying it), but I do think you should cut back a bit on the WP:STICKYDECO stuff on your userpage. While I have added the applicable CSS class to make the gadget function, many newbies—who frequently will have complaints when you revert their edits—will be unaware of the ability to tick the box to disable them, and they can be highly annoying/distracting/problematic for editors with sensory issues.

I wouldn't object if another admin chooses to grant the permission, but I wouldn't personally feel comfortable assigning newbie-interaction-heavy advanced permissions with the current amount of sticky decorations. Best regards, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 02:55, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Ah, Thank you! As you saw, I tried to add the collapsible boxes as a way for people to disable them (like the "clutter clear ->") as collapsing it would disable the code within. I was planning on making some changes actually, such as rearranging things and improving accessibility a bit, while always importantly keeping the talk page free from anything as it is. I hope it didn't appear unprofessional on me or too annoying.
But I see what you mean as some newer people might not see the boxes. and ill see what I could do. JamesEMonroe (talk) 04:15, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
@JamesEMonroe: On the default skin (Vector 2022) your Einstein gif blocks the "talk" button, the left molecule gif blocks the entire left sidebar, and the gifs on the right side block much of the right sidebar plus the "ClutterClear" button. That disrupts the interface by "preventing important links or controls from being easily seen or used". I would also urge you to fix that. – SilverLocust (Jenson) 06:28, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Good call. I removed it.
I didn't want to block the user talk page especially JamesEMonroe (talk) 06:43, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
I guess it makes it hard when its fine on my screen but possibly different on others. let me see with the other things. sorry about that ^^ JamesEMonroe (talk) 06:48, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

I want to have this permission to reduce the pending changes backlog. I reviewed all the guidelines, such as BLP and the guideline for referencing. I revert good faiths and obvious vandalism and warn the user right after. Although I cannot perform a rollback to the recent changes page to have a consecutive track record due to my device's limited capabilities. I would rather choose pending changes over rollback; with rollback, I must have track records of mass rollback vandalism. But since I understood the guideline of rollback and pending changes, I can assure you that I will be responsible for having this permission. — ArćRèvtalk 10:38, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

Re-requesting the Pending Changes granted by Mz7 to my comprised old account. Ɔþʱʏɾɪʊs 09:56, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

Hi there!

Despite my account having existed since 2009, I only have a modest edit count - and so it is more than reasonable for one to question whether I am a sufficiently experienced Wikipedian to be granted additional privileges.

I am requesting Pending changes reviewer as I believe I have demonstrated a good faith effort to contribute to the project, civility when interacting with other users, and adequate judgement when attempting to discern between deliberate vandalism or well-intentioned mistakes. But more than anything, I seek to find relevant policies and / or guidelines when confronted with a new (to me) situation - and while I endeavour to be WP:BOLD, I am aware of my own limitations and thus I know when to stop and ask others for guidance before proceeding.

If granted Pending changes reviewer I cannot promise I would be a prolific reviewer of pending changes; merely that when reviewing pending changes I would ensure I am doing it because I am confident in my ability to get that decision right, rather than out of boredom or a desire / sense of obligation to make the decision myself.

Thank you very much for your time & consideration.

I think I'm supposed to have this as I see an option suddenly for pending changes on my watchlist, for the article Remote sensing? I was going to approve (it's just a newer user adding some book references), but I guess I cannot? -- Very Polite Person (talk) 21:02, 4 June 2025 (UTC)

A little bit ago I made a request (which was declined - account new), I am again requesting this right because:

-My account is now over a month old

-My account is extended confirmed

-Lately, I have run across a lot of fine pending changes edits, but I can not approve them only revert them

As you can see, the main thing I do on Wikipedia is revert vandalism, you noted I should be a little more careful in doing so, which is what I did.

I think this right would allow me to reduce backlog, and do something I like (reverting vandalism) in a different way.

As you can see, I am also requesting the rollback right, which would help me with this process as while as reverting vandalism in general.

Whatever the outcome is, thank you. If it is not done, please provide me with steps I can take to get approved. ExplorerofSpace (talk) 00:29, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Hello there, I am requesting rollback permission. With my contributions, I am particular with BLP articles. I know what unconstructive edits are. I read the guidelines, and I am also aware of what the difference is between good faith and disruptive. I do, but I'm not very good at patrolling recent changes due to my devices' capabilities, but I want to contribute to decreasing vandalism in Wikipedia to the best that I can.
