The result of the discussion was: Rename as originally nominated; Marcocapelle's additional proposal did not gain consensus here but can be brought to a new discussion if warranted. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:19, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Requesting a change to the English variation of this category. The organisation itself uses the variant "International Confederation of Labour" (see About page and Introduction on website). It also gets wider usage in scholarly sources, with 5 results on Google Scholar for "Labour", and 2 for "Labor". Grnrchst (talk) 15:56, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm the creator of this category and I only used American English to be consistent with the now-redirected article for the ICL–CIT so it doesn't make any difference to me. Charles Essie (talk) 16:07, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Thoughts on Marcocapelle's suggestion? Clear consensus for a change.

As the nominator, I oppose Marco's suggestion. It's an unnecessary complication of a small category. --Grnrchst (talk) 07:13, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: rename per article title Fisherman. I have not listed this for speedy renaming because people might object that this excludes women. However "women fishermen" seems to be valid too. Presumably when this goes ahead the subcategories can be speedied. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:12, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
do we know why it's called fishers? Jahaza (talk) 01:52, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mike Selinker is the apparently still active category creator. Jahaza (talk) 01:55, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That was in 2006. If I had to guess, it might have been because Category:Fictional fishers existed and I thought it needed a container category. Mike Selinker (talk) 02:57, 11 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Conference Carolinas recently resumed sponsoring football after a 50 year hiatus. When it last sponsored football in 1974, it was known as the Carolinas Conference, and the category for holding the results of those older seasons is known as such. Now that they've changed their name (slightly) and begun sposnoring football again though, I think it would be prudent to update the category name to reflect this. The result of the discussion was: Delete Deleting the rest of the tree can be brought to a separate discussion. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:19, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Weird category created with no prior discussion with no tree for 'categories named after families', pointlessly creating another level under Category:Polish families (and effectively depopulating it). Delete and upmerge all categories back. Current execution creates errors, such as, let's say, Category:Matejko family *the family of Poland's most famous painter, Jan Matejko) is now categorized only under Category:Czech families (since Polish association was moved from Polish families to "Wikipedia categories named after Polish families"). Ditto for all the others. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:56, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization fix for "Arrondissement" geography stub categories

Nominator's rationale: It was brought to my attention that the word "arrondissement" is not a proper noun, nor is it part of the official name of any arrondissement of France. I also noticed this through some categories that weren't recently made, such as Arras arrondissement geography stubs. Anyway, there are a lot of categories that need the word "arrondissement" lowercase. Should the templates with "Arrondissement" in them get recapitalized, too? - OpalYosutebitotalk』 『articles I want to eat02:33, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Slaves "from"

The result of the discussion was: Rename * Pppery * it has begun... 16:19, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename, while "from" is generally the norm when a denonym cannot be used, it is too ambiguous in this particular case. "From" could (hypothetically) refer to the home country where the slave grew up before being enslaved, but here it refers to the (new) country where the person is being enslaved. In this case "in" is a lot clearer than "from". Marcocapelle (talk) 02:23, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not to mention that there exists Slaves in the Viceroyalty of Peru, so those categories you mentioned should be renamed to better conform with the "in" naming - OpalYosutebitotalk』 『articles I want to eat16:10, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of places in the United Kingdom

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: merge, unclear distinction between the two levels of categories. Note that places is not populated places, which is a clearly separate topic. Marcocapelle (talk) 02:17, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Weak oppose: Agree these are confusing at first sight, but on examining the England categories there's a pattern. 'Lists of places in England' covers articles about a specific place e.g. List of areas in Birmingham, while the 'geography' category is for less specific concepts e.g. List of Church of England dioceses and List of English districts.
