Guy Pearce receives backlash over shock political posts - as he makes a huge call about his social media presence

Guy Pearce has quit social media after he received significant backlash from fans following a series of political posts he made in support of Palestine.

The Memento star, 58, admitted his posts contained inaccurate information about Israel and the country's ongoing war with Palestine.

'It has been brought to my attention that, in my support of Palestine, I have inadvertently re-posted articles, and/or statements, that contained misinformation and falsehoods,' Pearce told Jewish News

'I am aware how sharing inaccurate content can cause confusion and distress; for this I am deeply sorry. I will certainly endeavour to be more diligent in future to verify anything I share online.'

Some of the controversial content Pearce shared included posts allegedly blaming Israel for the 9/11 terrorist attacks, content featuring far-right commentator Nick Fuentes and accusations that Israel was involved in Charlie Kirk's assassination.

Pearce also reportedly shared claims alleging that the 'top three pornography companies are owned by Jewish people'.

After receiving immense backlash following the posts, Pearce deleted the content from his X page and issued a statement revealing he would be taking a break from social media.

'Earlier this week, I issued an apology for sharing misleading and inaccurate posts and commentary on social media,' he wrote.

'I meant every word of that apology but I recognise that meaningful action must accompany any apology. To prevent any further hurt, confusion or damage to others, I will be stepping back from social media for the time being.'

He was also called out for some controversial posts he made earlier in November.

'I've never been so disgusted by a group of people in my life as I am by Israelis,' Pearce shared, in a now-deleted post.

'Every day, I witness their utter disregard and disdain for Palestinian life. It is shameful and sets humanity further backwards with every vile act like this.'

This is not the first time Pearce has raised eyebrows over his political views

In February, Pearce elected to go solo at the AACTA Awards after confirming his split with his long-time girlfriend Carice van Houten.

The veteran actor made another bold statement at the film and TV industry event, which took place at a lavish ceremony on the Gold Coast.

The former Neighbours star hit the red carpet wearing a white brooch which featured a white bird of 'peace' and the words 'Free Palestine'.

It comes after Guy secured his first-ever Oscar nomination just a day after his split with van Houten was confirmed.

The Game of Thrones star confirmed the news on her Instagram account and revealed the pair had not been a couple for 'years'.

The English-born actor stars alongside Adrien Brody in the post-World War II drama.

It tells the story of an architect (Brody) escaping post-war Europe to rebuild his life in America.

Pearce plays a prominent - and fictional - tycoon called Harrison Lee Van Buren who spots the architect's talents and 'sponsors' his career - with tragic results.
