Armenia is embarking on a transformative path toward sustainable agriculture, driven by its commitment to green growth and environmental resilience. Grounded in national strategies and policies, the country seeks to modernize its agrifood systems to enhance food security, optimize resource use, and reduce environmental impacts. This shift aligns with global sustainability goals and underscores Armenia’s proactive response to the challenges of climate change and natural resource management.

At the heart of these efforts is the forthcoming Strategy on Green and Sustainable Economic Development by 2030, currently under development by the Ministry of Economy. Complementing this, the 2020–2030 Agriculture Development Strategy promotes climate-smart farming, organic agriculture, and sustainable land use. These initiatives, supported by international collaborations (FAO, EU, USAID), aim to accelerate Armenia’s transition toward a greener, more resilient agricultural sector.

The Green Recovery Platform is a policy dialogue initiative led by UNDP, the EU, and the World Bank to support Armenia’s green recovery and sustainable development. While not an official policy, it provides tools, funding mechanisms, and strategic guidance in collaboration with the Armenian government.

Key initiatives include consultations on the Green and Sustainable Development Strategy (June 2022), discussions on green economy policies and challenges (December 2022), and investment priorities for sustainable water and wastewater management (January 2024).
