Big Number

$610M

Lilo & Stitch is adding another milestone to its list as it crosses the $600 million mark globally, including $280 million domestically — more than the total lifetime runs of some live-action Disney reimaginings. It’s already out-grossed the entire $273.1 million global of run of 2002’s animated Lilo & Stitch, not adjusted for inflation. To boot, it’s pacing ahead of Warner Bros.’ blockbuster A Minecraft Movie, at least in North America. Full story.

Snapshot

Last of Us Finale

The season two finale of The Last of Us brought in a smaller first-night audience than either the season premiere in March or its first season finale in 2023. The season finale drew 3.7 million viewers on HBO and Max on its first night, down from 5.3 million for the season premiere in April. It’s also well short of the 8.2 million viewers for the close of the first season in February 2023. Full story.

Network Scripted Shows, By Year

The number of comedies and dramas aired on broadcast has plunged by nearly half in the past decade. Scripted shows dropped off significantly during the height of the COVID pandemic, then took another hit following the 2023 strikes. ABC’s scripted output has fallen off the most, from 25 series in 2016-17 to just eight announced shows for next season.

SNL‘s Anniversary Bump

The 50th season of Saturday Night Live brought in the show’s largest audience in three years. Regular episodes averaged 8.1 million cross-platform viewers over seven days, up 12 percent from the 2023-24 season and the show’s highest total since the 2021-22 season. Hype around the 50th anniversary no doubt helped: The anniversary special in February rose to 22.8 million viewers across platforms over 35 days, adding 8 million viewers after its initial airing. SNL also leads all network entertainment series for the 2024-25 season among adults 18-49, and the season and 50th anniversary special combined to generate more than 7 billion views on social media.
