Exercise 1 Metacognitive Reading Report

Instructions: Read William Nelson Joy's Why the future doesn't need us?
htttp://www.wired.com/2000104/ 7oy.amv/itrm then complete the
metacognitive reading report.

1. Difficult Concepts

a. The term “Masupials” in the article

b. The term “Luddite” in the article

c. The meaning of the word “elite” in the article

2. Learning Insights

a. Before reading the article I thought that the topic was about us, human
being useless in the future.
However, after reading the article, I now think/learned that yes, it’s about
us, humans that are not going to be needed in the future, but it’s also
human who causes that to happen. Technologies were created to help
humans but we became more dependent to technology because of the
assurance of quality and speed of its work.
b. Before reading the article I thought that technology is vital in our society
and it will be very helpful if it is used in a right way.
However, after reading the article, I now think/learned that even if
technology is used in a right way, it can still harm us in any possible way.
For example our overused of antibiotics led to much more complicated
problems. Thus, this can also be applied to technology. If we became
more dependent to technology, we will be too lazy to do anything.
