Learning Activity Sheet: Science 7

This document provides a learning activity sheet for Science 7 on interpreting visual representations of motion. The most essential learning competency is to create and interpret visual representations such as tape charts and motion graphs. The activity sheet contains questions for students to answer about distance-time graphs and their interpretation. It describes what different sections of the graph represent in terms of gradient and speed. The document was prepared by the Science department head and curriculum implementation head and approved by the head teacher.

Science LEARNING ACTIVITY

7 SHEET
Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) Create and Interpret visual representation of
the motion of objects such as tape charts and motion graphs.
MELC Code: (S7FE-IIIa-3 )

DISCUSSION

The position of an object can be described in many ways. You can use words
through describing the motion of an object from the reference point. You can also use
visuals, like diagrams or graphs. In this module we will be able to describe motions
through representations by using the motion graph and tape charts.

Distance-time graphs
If an object moves along a straight line, the distance travelled can be represented by a
distance-time graph.

In a distance-time graph, the slope of the line is equal to the speed of the object. The
greater the slope (and the steeper the line) the faster the object is moving.

The table shows what each section of the graph represents:

Section of graph Gradient Speed

1
A Increasing Increasing

B Constant Constant

C Decreasing Decreasing

D Zero Stationary (at rest)

your answer before the number.

_________ 1. The graph that shows a slope in a distance-time graph means speed.
_________ 2. A roller coaster does not move in one direction.

_________ 3. An object undergoing constant speed traces a straight line.

__________ 4. Objects moving in one direction can be described through visuals.
__________ 5. Tape charts and motion graphs can be used to make the data interpretation
easy.
__________ 6. Time is plotted on the x-axis.
__________ 7. Distance in plotted on the Y-axis.
__________ 8. When a graph is plotted in terms of the distance travelled by the object and
the time it took to cover such distance, the graph is called distancetime graph.
