This RALM FINAL PAPER requires each group of max 2 members to conduct an in-depth study of a

local recreational facility, focusing on the facility’s management, operations, visitor experience, and
community impact. Follow these steps to organize your visit, gather data, and ensure a smooth
and informative experience.

Step 1: Form Your Group

1. Group Selection- Form a group with 2 members. Ensure that each member is willing to
contribute to the visit, data collection, and final report.
2. Prepare a Checklist- Make a checklist of key areas to observe, including facility layout,
visitor demographics, staff roles, customer service, safety protocols, and available
programs.
Step 2: Obtain a Waiver
1. Request a Waiver- Before visiting the facility, go to the CHIM (College of Hospitality and
Institutional Management) Office and request a Waiver Form for your group’s study visit.
➢ Each member must complete and sign the waiver, as it will cover liability and
ensure permission to conduct the study at the facility.
➢ Ensure you understand any terms and conditions outlined in the waiver to stay
compliant with institutional policies.
2. Approval Process: Submit the signed waiver forms to the CHIM Office and wait for
confirmation of approval.
➢ The office may contact the facility on your behalf or provide you with a signed
document to present at the facility.
➢ Ensure to bring any necessary identification or student credentials if required.
Step 3: Contact the Recreational Facility
1. Arrange a Visit - Contact the recreational facility to confirm the date and time of your visit.
o Introduce Your Group- Let the facility manager know you are a student group
conducting a study for a class project and mention any CHIM Office documentation
or waiver if needed.
o Request Permission for Observations -Politely ask if you can observe various areas
and, if allowed, photograph or interview staff or visitors.
2. Prepare Questions in Advance - Develop questions related to management practices,
customer service, financial operations, and community engagement. These can guide your
observations and help structure any conversations with facility staff.
Step 4: Conduct the Visit
1. Observe and Take Notes - During your visit, carefully observe the facility’s layout, visitor
flow, activities, and staff operations.
2. Gather Data and Feedback- If possible, ask visitors or staff for brief, informal feedback
about their experience (respect privacy and keep conversations brief and non-intrusive).
3. Collect Brochures/Maps - Obtain any available facility materials, such as brochures, maps,
or program schedules, to include in your report.
Step 5: Compile Findings and Prepare the Report
1. Share Observations - Meet as a group to discuss findings and review notes, photos, and
collected materials.
2. Draft the Report - Assign sections of the paper based on each member’s observations and
notes. Use the provided paper structure as a guideline.
3. Review and Finalize - Proofread the final paper as a group, ensuring all parts are cohesive
and meet project requirements.
