Use of Operating Handbook
The CAE Operating Handbook is both a training aid for the simulator and a practical tool
for the cockpit. Four sections comprise this handbook.
• The preflight procedures section (P-pages) are inserted in vinyl sleeves for
increased durability and ease of page replacement. This section is an abbreviated
listing of major items to be checked on preflight inspection.
• The normal procedures section (N-pages) are inserted in vinyl sleeves for
increased durability and ease of page replacement. The checklists provided are
CAE developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). If your company has its own
SOP, you may replace the CAE SOP with your own SOP.
• The flight planning section (F-pages) contains charts and graphs to facilitate flight
planning.
• The emergency/abnormal procedures section (E-pages) contains checklists for
emergency and abnormal situations. All immediate action (memory) items are
printed in red; procedures with immediate action items also have red titles.

Flight Planning
Takeoff Data
1. All takeoff data assumes the following:
▪ a hard, level, dry runway
▪ no clearway or stopway
▪ zero wind
▪ an airport pressure altitude between sea level and 8,000 ft
and temperatures (OAT ºC) between 0º and ISA + 35º, or the
WAT limit (whichever is lower)
▪ a nosewheel tire speed limit of 190 or 210 MPH for flaps 15º
▪ a nosewheel tire speed limit of 210 MPH only for flaps 0°.
1. Determine the appropriate table for the aircraft weight and airport
pressure altitude. For weight and pressure altitude values between
those listed, use either linear interpolation or the next higher tabu-
lated value.
2. With engine anti-ice ON, add 10ºC to the actual temperature before
entering the table.
3. For temperatures between the tabulated values, use either linear
interpolation or the nearest temperature above or below that
required, whichever gives the longer distance.
4. Determine the runway distance required (in feet), V1, VR, and V2
from the tabulated values.
5. Refer to AFM HS 1.22 Supplement 4 for performance data for take-
off under the following conditions:
▪ flaps 15º; 10 Kts headwind
▪ flaps 0º; 10 Kts headwind.

Associated Conditions: both engines operating, air conditioner bleed air in use, flaps 0°,
landing gear retracted, airspeed of 160 KIAS.
NOTE:
• Add 0.5% N1 for engine anti-ice bleed and 5% for flaps 15°.
• Minimum pressure altitude for thrust reduction is 1,000 ft above aerodrome altitude.
• Less than maximum takeoff weights will increase climb rates for a given N1.
• Technique similar to noise type certification demonstration for takeoff with cutback.
To use chart to determine N1:
• Determine reduced thrust pressure altitude using aerodrome pressure altitude plus
height above aerodrome for commencement of thrust reduction.
• Enter chart at aerodrome temperature and proceed vertically to aerodrome pressure
altitude.
• Move parallel to nearest ISA ± constant temperature until reduced thrust pressure
altitude is reached.
• Proceed left and read N1 required.
• Below ISA -20ºC, use ISA -20ºC to determine N1.
