Project 1 (post on Week 6)
Calculate the values of the Resistors R1 and R2 and the batteries Vb1 and Vb2 to make
the above circuit attenuates the input signal voltage in the range above 8V with a
ratio=1/4 and below -5V with a ratio = 4/5 and passes the voltage as it is in the range
of the input voltage above -5V and below 8V.
Make a transient analysis with sinusoidal input signal with Vpp=20V and frequency of
1KHz - plot both the input and output signals.
Problem (2): Rectifier Circuits
It is required to use a peak rectifier to design a DC power supply that provides an
average DC output voltage of 10 V on which a maximum of ±1 Vripple is allowed.
The rectifier feeds a load of 150Ω.
The rectifier is fed from the line voltage (120Vrms, 60Hz) through a transformer. The
diodes available have 0.7-V drop when conducting.
For
i- Half wave rectifier circuit
a) Specify the rms voltage that must appear across the transformer secondary.
b) Find the required value of the filter capacitor.
c) Find the maximum reverse voltage that will appear across the diode, and specify
the PIV rating of the diode.
d) Calculate the average current through the diode during conduction.
e) Calculate the peak diode current.
f) Simulate the circuit using Transient Analysis. Simulation results must show the
diode voltage and current, Load voltage vs Secondary Voltage.
Problem (3): Limiters Involve Zener
Simulate the circuit using Transient Analysis. Simulation results must show input voltage
(labeled as in) vs output voltage (labeled as out)
In the hand analysis assume that the diodes can be represented by a piecewise-linear
model with Vm=0.85V and rD=50Ω.
The specified Zener voltage is (7.5V) is measured at a current of 15mA and rz=20 Ω.
