CAUSE When a writer presents reasons why something happened, he or she is explaining the causes.
Why it happened? EFFECT When a writer explains the results, he or she is explaining the effects.
What happened? Example:

because she wanted to serve the people. Example: The parents believe in providing quality time to their children; as a result, the children are all successful in their different fields of endeavor.
