Introduction
o In the early days, most people just used the internet to search
for information.
o Today's internet is a constantly evolving tool, that not only
contains an amazing variety of information, but also provides
new ways of accessing, interacting and connecting with
people and content.
What is Internet
o Internet is a vast network that connects
computers over the world.
o A network is a group of two or more computer
systems linked together.
Types of Network
 Local Area Network(LAN)
o A LAN is two or more connected computers
sharing certain resources in a relatively small
geographic location, often in the same
building.
o Examples include home networks and office
networks.

 Wide Area Network (WAN)
o WAN consists of two or more LANs.
o The computers are further apart and linked by
cables or radio waves.
o The internet is the largest WAN in existence.

o A server is a computer that "serves" many
different computers in a network by running
specialized software and storing information.
o For example, web pages are stored on servers.
o When you access a web page, your computer is
acting as a client.
o A client runs familiar software such as web

information it requires.

o WWW also known as Web is a collection of
websites or webpages stored in a web servers

o The WWW, along with internet, enables the

language for documents designed to be
displayed in a web browser.

Introduction
o As the internet has grown it has developed into a multifaceted tool
with a vast range of uses.
o It is now easy to keep in touch with friends, publish your own
articles or even watch your favorite TV show.
Finding Information Online
o The most common way to find information
online is with search engine.
o A search engine is a service that allow users to
search for content using keyword or phrases.
o There are many different search engines that
you can use but Google is the most popular
one.
Intelligent Personal Assistant
o If you're using a mobile device, there are some
situations where it's not convenient to type a
search into a search engine.
o Instead, you can simply talk to your device's
o intelligent personal assistant.
o One example is Siri, which comes pre-
installed on the iPhone
Using Internet to Communicate
o The internet isn't just about finding
information. It's also about connecting with
friends, family, and people you've never met
before.
o Social networking has become one of the main
ways people keep in touch.
o Examples are Facebook, WhatsApp,
Instagram, LinkedIn and so on.
How Do I Connect to the Internet
o In order to connect to the internet, you need a
computer and internet service.
o The internet service is done by internet service
provider (ISP) which the company that you
contact when installing internet.
o To choose the best service provider consider:
Speed, price, ease of installation, technical
support and contract terms.
Web Browsers
o A web browser is the tool that you use to
access the World Wide Web.
o The browser's main job is to display web
pages.
o Examples are Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Google
Chrome and Safari.
o Web sites are stored on servers on the internet,
so the World Wide Web is a part of the
internet.

o With tablet computers and mobile phones, it's
possible to have full internet access, allowing

wireless.
