2025-05-19: 2025 Spa Classic preview with Ferrari and Lola racers ...
Ferrari F430 GTC One of the annual highlights on our calendar is the Spa Classic. Scheduled for this weekend, it is one of the longest running stand-alone Peter Auto events. Spread over 10 different grids, well over 400 racing cars are expected to take to the legendary circuit. We will be there to cover the event as always and all the races can now be followed live on the Peter Auto YouTube channel. In the the mean time, to get you in the mood we have taken a closer look at three cars that are expected to star.
A relatively new and hugely popular addition to the schedule is the Endurance Racing Legends 2 grid. In fact, it has been so popular that the field is now split with ERL2 dedicated to two generations of GT2 cars only. Winning both ERL2 heats at the Barcelona season opener was this Ferrari F430 GTC. Originally raced by Scuderia Ecosse, it was also hugely successful in period. Extensively raced between 2006 and 2010, it scored numerous class and outright victories and also won the 2006 British GT Championship courtesy of ten wins in fourteen races. Now owned by a British historic racer, chassis 2418 should again be at the sharp end at the Spa Classic. Also part of the same field is this slightly later Ferrari 458 Grand Am. As the name suggests, it was specifically built for the Grand Am and later GTD regulations as used in North America. This particular example was raced in period at Daytona and Sebring before the program it was part of was wound down.
A recent addition to the Classic Endurance Racing 2 field is this very rare Lola T297. One of just four built ahead of the 1978 season, the BMW powered machine was entered in three editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It had a second and quite long lease of life in hill climbing. Chassis HU91 eventually made to the United States and is now painted in its 1978 Le Mans colours.
2025-05-15: Italian thoroughbreds headed for RM Sotheby's Milan sale ...
Lamborghini Miura P400 SV At the upcoming RM Sotheby's Milan sale three Italian thoroughbreds will cross the block. Leading the way is this late production Lamborghini Miura SV. Originally finished in red with a blue interior, it was equipped with the desirable split-sump lubrication system. Sold new to the United States, it was more recently restored by marque expert Gary Bobileff and awarded 'Best Lamborghini' at the 2015 Concorso Italiano. Chassis 4946 was consigned with no reserve and is estimated to sell for over €3.2 million.
Also available is an icon of 1980s rallying in the form of this ex-Lancia Martini Racing Delta HF Integrale Group A. Campaigned by the factory team during the 1989 season, it scored two World Rally Championship victories. Chassis 458689 is now offered from a 25-year single ownership in its iconic, original livery.
A very rare consignment is this Abarth 207A Boano Spider, which is one of just ten built. Although its early history is not known it has been owned by two great Abarth collectors Dr. Sergio Lugo and Fabrizio Violati. Following a spell in the Maranello Rosso museum, 011 is now offered by its long-term Dutch owner.
2025-05-12: Rare Iso Grifo A3/C 'Stradale' and Maserati 6CM ...
Iso Grifo A3/C Following the famous Ferrari 'palace revolt', chief engineer Giotto Bizzarrini joined forces with Italian industrialist Renzo Rivolta to create the Iso Grifo sports car. In spectacular A3/C trim, the Grifo featured a nearly centrally mounted small-block V8 engine and a low and wide riveted aluminium body that had been penned by Giorgietto Giugiaro. Only two dozen were built before Bizzarrini split with Rivolta and the cars were rebadged Bizzarrini 5300 GT. One of those very rare aluminium A3/Cs is this example that was reportedly first shown at the 1964 Paris Auto Salon. It was then owned by Tefal inventor Marc Grégoire, French artist Freddy J. Zimmer and then for nearly four decades by Marcel Petitjean. Now restored to its original champagne livery B 0212 was shown on the Fiskens stand at the 2025 Retromobile show.
Due to cross the block at the inaugural Broad Arrow Auctions Villa d'Este sale is this storied Maserati 6CM. It started life as a works car and was raced to victory in the 1936 Nürburgring Eifelrennen by Count Carlo Felice Trossi. In subsequent ownership, it was raced into 1949 season. By that time, it had been fitted with a four-cylinder engine from a 4CM. Among the subsequent owners were noted collectors and historic racers like Ken Rudd, Joel E. Finn, Robin Lodge and Federico Buratti. Chassis 1531 has continued to race under the current ownership and notably scored a podium finish in the 2022 Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
2025-05-09: Ferrari Friday with three iconic sports racers ...
Ferrari 250 TR Today we mark Ferrari Friday by highlighting three iconic sports racers from the company's competition history. The most famous of the trio is this 250 TR, which was sold new to American racer Ed Hugus. The pontoon-fendered example raced at Sebring and Le Mans in period and has rarely been seen in public during the last three decades. Chassis 0732TR was brought to the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed where Ferrari's 75th anniversary was celebrated.
Another Testa Rossa featured today is this four-cylinder engined 500 TRC. It was raced extensively in period, including in the very last Mille Miglia. Recently re-restored while in the current ownership 0670MDTR starred at last year's Chantilly Arts & Elegance.
An altogether more modern machine is this 333 SP. Powered by a Formula 1 derived five-valve V12 engine, the 333 SP remains one of the best sounding competition cars ever constructed. This particular example was the 30th of 41 built and was raced with great success in period by the JB (later JMB) team. Victories were scored at Brno, Donington and Magny Cours. It was demonstrated for the current owner at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed by Marino Franchitti.
2025-05-06: Impressive Alfa Romeo collection headed for RM Monterey sale ...
Alfa Romeo 33/2 Daytona 2.5 Among the early consignments for the RM Sotheby's Monterey Sale is the spectacular Quadrifoglio Collection. Consisting of Alfa Romeos only, the headliner of the Italian stable is this 33/2 Daytona Coupe, which was the first example fitted with a 2.5-litre version of the V8 engine. It was a period works car and was also raced by the VDS team before a subsequent owner brought it to Angola. Still fitted with a 2.5-litre engine, it was eventually repatriated. Chassis 015 has been part of the Quadrifoglio Collection since 2012 and was raced at the 2017 Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
A unique Alfa Romeo consigned is this Giulia TZ, which was sold new to the son of famous author Vladimir Nabokov. To clear his tall frame, this TZ became the only fitted with a double-bubble roof. Following its period racing career, 750061 entered the long-term ownership of the consignor in 1991.
Also due to cross the block is this Giulietta SZ; one of only around 30 finished with the Kamm-style Coda Tronca. It is believed to be the first competition car backed by the Martini & Rossi spirits company and was fielded at Daytona and Sebring. Chassis 00200 has remained in the United States throughout its life and joined the current stable in 2016.
2025-05-01: New Ferrari 296 Speciale and Aston Martin DBX S, and Countach LPI 800-4 headed for auction ...
Ferrari 296 Speciale Earlier this week, Ferrari introduced an enhanced version of the V6-engined 296. Dubbed the 296 Speciale, it boasts more power and improved aerodynamics. The combined output of the twin-turbo V6 and electric motor is a staggering 869 bhp. In addition to the Coupe, the enhanced 296 is also available as the open Speciale A for Aperta.
With the DBX S, Aston Martin has introduced a new flag-ship version of the company's luxury SUV. Derived from the DBX 707, it boasts a further 20 hp for a total of 727 metric horsepower. The exhaust system is also modified to improve the soundtrack while the DBX has also been put on a diet to reduce the kerb weight significantly. The new DBX S is now available for order and the first deliveries are expected in the fourth quarter of 2025.
At this weekend's Miami Grand Prix, Bonhams Cars will host an exclusive sale. One of the headliners of the auction is this Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, which is one of just 112 examples built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Countach. It is offered in as-new condition with a mere 69 miles on the odometer. Originally sold for $2,757,616, the Countach LPI 800-4 is now estimated to sell for $1.9 - $2.4 million.
2025-04-28: 82nd Goodwood Members' Meeting report and gallery ...
82nd Goodwood Members' Meeting report and gallery The busy and always highly anticipated Goodwood motorsport season kicked off earlier this month with the 82 Goodwood Members' Meeting. Held over two days, the event is traditionally a more laidback version of the Revival without the strict 1966 cut-off. As a result, complete history of motorsport is celebrated. Accordingly, this year's edition featured a shoot-out for recent GT3 machinery but also a race for Edwardian behemoths, all of which were at least 100 years old. Further highlights included demonstrations of the ex-Ayrton Senna 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix winning Lotus 97T Renault and a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the hugely successful Jota Sport team. As has become tradition over the last couple of editions, Gordon Murray Automotive was also on hand to demonstrate their latest supercars. The races nevertheless took centre stage, which included three groups dedicated to touring cars providing fender-to-fender action. The absolute highlight of the weekend was the 45-minute, two-driver Gurney Cup for 1965-1967 sports racers. The eventful race saw a comeback drive during the second half that few who witnessed it will soon forget.
As always, we were on hand and have captured all the action in this 160-shot gallery, which serves to illustrate a detailed report.
2025-04-24: Broad Arrow Auctions Porsche Air|Water auction preview ...
Ruf CTR Yellowbird At this weekend's Porsche Air|Water event, Broad Arrow Auctions will stage a Porsche-only sale. It is headlined by this very rare Ruf CTR Yellowbird. It is finished in the iconic Blütengelb exterior finish that earned the high-performance model its Yellowbird nickname. Officially certified by Ruf, this CTR is the only one that was fitted with a full lightweight interior and should now sell for over $4.5 million.
Another fascinating air-cooled Porsche consigned is this 906 Carrera 6, which was sold new to the United States. It was raced extensively in period but has survived with much of its original bodywork, chassis and matching-number gearbox. Recently refurbished by Road Scholars, 906-140 has a $1.6 - $1.9 million estimate.
By comparison this Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a bargain at $450,000 - $550,000 considering it finished on the Le Mans podium in its very first competitive outing and was only raced once thereafter. It was also originally painted in the New York Yankees livery it again wears today. With a 100% finish rate, it has survived its racing career without any accidents and the Le Mans and Sebring veteran should be one of the most original examples extant.
2025-04-22: Rare Ferrari F50 and final Aston Martin DBR9 headed for auction ...
Ferrari F50 Anglo-Canadian auctioneer RM Sotheby's announced the first consignment for the upcoming Monterey Sale; the ex-Ralph Lauren Ferrari F50. Commissioned by the fashion tycoon and noted collector, it is one of just two yellow F50s destined for the North American market. Lauren would own the car through to 2003 and it shortly thereafter joined the stable of a husband and wife enthusiast couple. It has since been only rarely seen but was Ferrari Classiche certified. With a mere 5,400 miles on the odometer, chassis 104798 has a $6.5 - $7.5 million estimate.
At the upcoming Milan sale, the very last Aston Martin DBR9 will cross the block. Although already built in 2008, it was not used until the 2010 season when it was raced three times by the Young Driver Aston Martin Racing team. Its career was cut short by an accident at the 2010 Spa 1000 km race. Repaired and finished in the 2006 Aston Martin Racing works colours, DBR9/109 is expected to change hands for €1.5 - €1.8 million.
2025-04-17: Genesis Hypercar, most powerful Hennessey F5 Venom yet and new Porsche racer ...
Genesis GMR-001 At this week's New York International Auto Show, Genesis revealed further details including the livery of the upcoming GMR-001 Hypercar. The bright orange machine is built to IMSA's LMDh regulations and combines a bespoke twin-turbo V8 with an Oreca-based chassis and spec hybrid system. The engine is not all-new as it is derived from the four-cylinder engine that powers the successful Hyundai rally cars. It was fired up for the first time this week. The GMR-001 will debut in the FIA WEC in 2026 and a Stateside effort will be added to program from the 2027 season onwards. In addition to the new competition car, Genesis also revealed the X Gran Equator. Penned by Luc Donckerwolke, this concept car "reimagines Genesis' "Athletic Elegance" design philosophy while embracing the rugged spirit of overlanding."
Hennessey Special Vehicles has pushed the performance envelope even further with the 2,031 bhp Venom F5 Evolution. As the name suggests, it is not a brand-new car but an upgrade package available to the existing owners of the various Venom F5 versions of which around 30 have been built and delivered. Among the changes included are upgraded turbochargers and oval pistons created for Hennessey by specialists Ilmor, while revisions to the suspension and aerodynamics are also part of the upgrade. The Venom F5 Evolution package is priced at $285,000.
Porsche will use the upcoming Spa 12 Hours race to test the latest 911 GT3 R competition car under racing conditions. Based on the 992 II generation, the new GT3 racer features an improved front end, revised steering and upgrades to the software system. The new 911 GT3 R will be raced by Herberth Motorsport and will be available to customers from the 2026 season onwards.
2025-04-15: GT1 Ferrari and Viper that starred at Barcelona ...
Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello At the recent Espiritu de Montjuic in Barcelona that were two GT1 cars that caught our eye. Driven with great verve by seasoned French sports car racer Emanuel Collard was this fabulous Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello. It is one of two new cars built by Prodrive for Care Racing Development ahead of the 2002 season. Chassis CRD 04 was campaigned with great success by BMS Scuderia Italia in the FIA GT Championship. It was driven to victory in its first five outings and went on to win the championship. Raced through to the 2005 season, it would go on to score 15 wins, making it one of the most successful of all the Prodrive Ferraris.
One of its period rivals was this Dodge Viper GTS-R, which was originally campaigned by Larbre Motorsport. Used in the 2003 French FFSA championship, it was also campaigned in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the one-off Le Mans 1000 km race. Chassis C46 was raced through to 2009 by successive owners and was more recently restored to its 2003 Le Mans livery and returned to the race track in 2024.
2025-04-10: American muscle from the past and future ...
AC Shelby Cobra 260 American muscle cars come in many shapes and sizes and certainly those in the past were powered by a rumbling V8 engine. That is certainly the case for this AC Shelby Cobra 260. One of the very first examples built, this car was sold to an American customer late in 1962. He did not actually race the car but he did use it for his wedding. It was raced extensively later in its life when it was owned by Dr Frank Zizzo, who was famously known as the Shelby Doc. He nicknamed the car the Junkyard Dog and Elvis and chronicled his adventures in his Shelby American column. In more recent years, chassis CSX2021 was sold to the United Kingdom and it was restored to its original configuration for the popular pre-1963 category. It was already raced at the Goodwood Revival last year and will be back in action this weekend during the 82nd Members' Meeting. We will be at the Goodwood Motor Circuit as well and a full report will follow shortly after.
American muscle cars of the future may be very very different as is illustrated by this Chevrolet Corvette show car created at General Motors' newly opened United Kingdom design centre in Royal Leamington Spa near Birmingham. It is the first of several Corvette concepts due to be revealed during 2025. This Corvette Concept is split in two with the top half capturing classic design elements, while the bottom half houses a futuristic electric drive system.
