Before you start answering the module, I want you to set aside other tasks
that will distract you while enjoying the lessons. Read the simple
instructions below to successfully enjoy the objectives of this kit. Have fun!

1. Follow carefully all the contents and instructions indicated in every


page of this module.
2. Write on your notebook or any writing pad the concepts about the
lessons. Writing enhances learning, which is important to develop
and keep in mind.
3. Perform all the provided activities in the module.
4. Let your facilitator/guardian assess your answers.
5. Analyze conceptually the posttest and apply what you have learned.

PARTS OF THE MODULE


 Expectations - These are what you will be able to know after
completing the lessons in the module.
 Pretest - This will measure your prior knowledge and the concepts to
be mastered throughout the lesson.
 Looking Back - This section will measure what learnings and skills
that you understand from the previous lesson.
 Brief Introduction- This section will give you an overview of the
lesson.
 Activities - These are activities designed to develop critical thinking
and other competencies. This can be done with or without a partner
depending on the nature of the activity.
 Remember - This section summarizes the concepts and applications
of the lessons.
 Checking Your Understanding - It will verify how you learned from
the lesson.
 Post Test - This will measure how much you have learned from the

Lesson 12 – Basic Sentence Pattern

At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:


 identify the different basic sentence pattern
 analyze the structure of the sentence whether it follows correct
pattern
 construct meaningful sentences following correct sentence pattern

A. Analyze whether the underlined verb used in the sentence is Transitive


or Intransitive.

10. Everyone participates to help our country recovers from the pandemic.

 A sentence is a group of words giving a complete thought.


A sentence must contain a subject and a verb.
 The four (4) types of sentence according to function are:
declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.
 The different types of sentence according to structure are:
simple sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence,
and compound -complex sentence.

Learning the English language is a little bit challenging for there are
certain rules to consider. Every word in your sentence has to be placed in a
correct order. How do you know the words in your sentence are in the right
places? Learning the basic sentence pattern would be handy. The basic
sentence patterns serve as your guide in writing and expressing your
sentence appropriately and meaningfully.

THE BASIC SENTENCE PATTERN

and ends it with a period.

The Basic Sentence Patterns:
S + IV S + LV + C S + TV + DO
S + TV + IO + DO S + TV + DO + OC

Subject (S) – part of a sentence that names what of whom the sentence
is about.
Intransitive Verb (IV) – verb that does not require a direct object
Linking Verb (LV) – verb that links the subject and its complement
complement – modifies or refers to the subject.
Transitive Verb (TV) – verb that requires a direct object
Direct Object (DO) – noun or pronoun where the action of the verb is
directed.
Indirect Object (IO) – a noun or pronoun receiving the direct object.
Objective Complement (OC) – an adjective or noun that describes
the direct object
