Artificial Intelligence – NBE Key 2024-25

Unit 2: Data Literacy

Subjective Type – Reasoning questions

A. Short answer type questions:
1 What is Data Pyramid?
Ans Data pyramid is a hierarchical structure used in data literacy to represent the progress of data
from its raw form to actionable insights.

2 Define quantitative data.

Ans The data in the form of numbers which are countable called as quantitative data.
Example: shoe size

3 What is textual data interpretation?

Ans Textual data interpretation involves analyzing and drawing conclusion from non-numeric
data, such as written text from a variety of sources like social medial post, survey, polls,
feedback etc.

4 What does cultivating data literacy mean?

Ans Cultivating data literacy involves developing the skills, knowledge, and mindset necessary to
understand, interpret, analyze, and effectively communicate data.

5 What is data acquisition?

Ans Data acquisition is a process of collecting the data from various sources.

6 What is data visualisation?

Ans Data visualization is the process of representing data and information graphically, using
visual elements such as charts, graphs, maps, and diagrams. The purpose of data visualization
is to make complex data more accessible, understandable, and actionable by highlighting
patterns, trends, correlations, and outliers that might not be easily noticed in raw data.

7 Write the use of Tableau.

Ans The uses of Tableau are;
 Creating interactive dashboards
 Exploring and visualizing large datasets
 Real-time data analysis
 Reporting and dashboards for monitoring performance and metrics
 Connecting to multiple data sources
etc

8 What are data features?

The Global Edge School – Ahead Of The Learning Curve 1

Artificial Intelligence – NBE Key 2024-25
Ans Data features are the characteristics of the data. They describe each piece of information in a
dataset. Data features are also called as variables. E.g.: In Student’s dataset, the table contains
data features like name, age, marks etc.

Subjective Type – Application based questions

B. Long answer type questions:
1 Why is data security important? List any two reasons.
Ans Data security is important because, if a data breach occurs, an organization can face a court
case, fines, and reputational damage.
 Cyberattacks have made data security more important to protect private, financial and
proprietary data.
 It reduces the risk of data loss and other security threats which can disrupt the
operations and cause substantial harm.

2 Explain 3 steps involved in data acquisition.

Ans Data acquisition involves three following steps;
1. Data discovery – searching for new datasets.
2. Data augmentation – increasing the amount of data by adding copies of existing data
with small changes.
3. Data generation – generating or recording data using sensors.

3 Define quantitative and qualitative data interpretation

Ans Quantitative data interpretation is made on numeric data. This helps us to answer
questions involving ‘when’, ‘how many’, and ‘how often’.
E.g:
Measuring the height of Quantitaive DI
the students in a Suitable Seat
classroom arrangement

Qualitative data interpretation is made on insights and motivations of people. This helps us
to answer questions involving ‘why’, and ‘how’.
E.g: Jim and his friends are Quantitaive DI Dominos is a popular
regular customers of
Dominos. pizza choice.

4 Why is data interpretation important?

Ans Data interpretation is important because;
 Informed Decision-Making: Interpreting data accurately allows individuals and
organizations to make informed decisions based on evidence rather than assumptions.
 Reduce the cost by identifying Trends and Patterns: Through data interpretation, it's
possible to uncover trends, patterns, and correlations within datasets. This insight can
drive understanding of what is required and thus helps in cost reduce.

 Identifies needs: It helps in understanding the needs of the people.

5 List the key components of data literacy framework.

Ans
Assess

 Plan – this is the first step to set clear goals and objectives to the program.
 Communicate – good communication ensures that everyone understood what data
literacy program is about.
 Assess – evaluating how comfortable people are with the data and data tools, which
helps us to understand where people are and what they need to learn.
 Develop culture – making data skills a natural plan of how things work in an
organization.
 Perspective learning – offering different ways of learning helps everyone learn better
by providing resources and activities that suits different learning styles.
 Evaluate – final evaluation of effectiveness of data literacy program to measure the
progress, identify areas of improvement, and demonstrate the program’s impact.

6 What are the stages of data pyramid while working efficiently with data?
Ans The four stages of data pyramid are;
Example stages

7 Explain independent and dependent data features.

Ans Independent features are the input variables or predictors that are used to explain or predict
the dependent variable. Example: In a study to predict house prices, independent features
might include the size of the house, number of bedrooms, location, and age of the property.

These factors influence the house price (dependent variable), but the price itself does not
affect these features.

Dependent feature is the output variable or the target variable that you are trying to predict
or explain. It is dependent on the independent variables. Example: In the house price
example, the house price is the dependent variable. It depends on the independent variables
like size, number of bedrooms, location, etc.

8 How are bar charts and pie charts helpful in graphical data interpretation?
Ans Bar charts and pie charts are both powerful tools in graphical data interpretation, each serving
specific purposes that make data more understandable and actionable.

Uses of Bar Charts:

 Comparison Across Categories
 Highlighting Trends and Changes
 Handling Large Datasets

Uses of Pie Charts

 Proportional Representation
 Visualizing Parts of a Whole
 Simplicity in Presentation
