CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
This study aims to delve into how UST-Legazpi can optimize the student
center to better serve the needs of its expanding student population. The
research will evaluate the existing facilities, gather input from students and
staff, and analyze trends in student center design to propose
recommendations that are in line with the university’s mission and vision.
By concentrating on the student center, this research strives to contribute
to UST-Legazpi's ongoing endeavors to enhance the quality of education
and student life on campus.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The student center is a vital part of any university campus, serving as the
heart of student life. It offers a versatile space for studying, socializing,
participating in extracurricular activities, and accessing various services.
The design and functionality of a student center can significantly impact the
overall student experience, influencing academic performance, social
engagement, and community building. A student center is a dedicated
space for student activities, fostering a sense of community among
students, instructors, and staff. It provides areas for casual conversations,
allowing people to meet and form bonds outside of the classroom. This
social component is essential for creating a welcoming campus community.
The study determined the appropriate design of Student Center and sought
answers to the following questions/problems.
1. What are the main reasons students visiting the student center, and how
frequently do they use it?
2. What are the facilities to be used on designing University Student Center?
3. What design approach and solutions can be used in order to meet the need
requirement of this project?
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
Primary Users
The primary users of the University Student Center are the students. The
concept is ideal for them because they are involved in different activities. A
well-designed student center can significantly enhance students' academic
experiences by offering spaces that promote collaboration, learning, and
personal development.
Secondary Users
The Second users are the administrators and instructors. An improved
student center provides instructors with additional spaces that support
various teaching and learning activities outside the traditional classroom
setting. the availability of modernized facilities for academic workshops,
seminars, and extracurricular activities can complement instructors' efforts
to provide a well-rounded educational experience.
Tertiary Users
The security and control staff, maintenance staff, and support staff are
considered tertiary users. They are the employees who provide support
and additional services for the student center.
RELATED STUDIES
The Related Studies include foreign and local literature. The sources were
from books, documents and different websites with the topics deemed to be
essential in the developmenrt of the project. This chapter helped the
researcher in getting more knowledge about the study.

Project: Colorado Convention Center
Centrally located in Denver, the center has become one of Denver's many
landmarks.
Background
Facilities
• Lobby-35,000 sqft.
ThThe convention center offers 615,700 sq. ft. (57,200 m²) of exhibit space. As
of 2009 it was the 24th largest convention facility in North America. It was
designed by Canadian architect Arthur Erickson. Capacity for the facility is
125,000.
The center's most distinguishing feature is the Sails Pavilion, a 90,000 sq. ft.
(8,400 m²) exhibit and special event area. The Sails Pavilion's roof consists of
distinctive Teflon-coated fiberglass "sails" intended to reflect San Diego's
maritime history, as well as to advertise the center's proximity to the San
Diego shore. The Pavilion was originally built as an open-air facility under the
roof. However, the center found it hard to convince potential users to book an
open-air facility, so the Pavilion area was enclosed in glass, greatly expanding
the usable area of the center.

Architectural design
The San Diego Convention Center is a far cry from the big boxes you might
find in other cities. Impressively fashioned to pay homage to the city of San
Diego's rich maritime history, the facility as a whole is architecturally
remarkable as it seamlessly blends beauty with functionality and some of the
individual aspects that contribute to the overall iconic design.as designed by
Canadian architect Arthur Erickson. Capacity for the facility is 125,000. The

of people, and not a ton of them are around yet to be considered convenient
for all. For now, let’s take a look at some of the accessible coworking spaces
that are around the Rizal Province.
They aims to serve Work from Home Office workers and other freelancers
that wants a quiet, cozy, and non-hostile, friendly environment for them to
reach their goals day after day. Espasyo is a flexible workspace that caters to
both student and professionals. With high-speed internet, power outlets,

Project: SMX Convention Center
Architect: Arquitectonica
Facilities Halls
The halls have a total floor area of 9,130 m2. These may be combined
depending on the event requirements. With a ceiling clearance of 9 meters
and floor load capacity of 250 lbs. /sq. ft., the halls are ideal for multi-level
booths or modules as well as heavy machinery.
Function rooms
Five fully-carpeted function rooms on the second floor offer a more plus and
luxurious environment for events. These rooms can see anywhere from 200 to
8,200 guests at any given time, which makes it ideal for corporate affairs,
graduation ceremonies, product launches and even large-scale social events.
Meeting rooms
The Meeting Rooms are perfect for small-scale corporate and social
functions, company board meetings and training seminars. The rooms can be
setup according to a function's specific needs, and when combined, they can
even accommodate up to 300 attendees. SMX also has a Theater Room for
gatherings that will require elevated seating.
Pre-function lobbies
The Ground Floor Pre-Function Lobby, which spans a total of 900 square
