Yankees' Fernando Cruz: Throws another bullpen session
Cruz (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
"I feel ready. No pain, no discomfort," Cruz told reporters after Saturday's session. The 35-year-old right-hander is recovering from right shoulder inflammation that caused him to land on the 15-day injured list May 22. Cruz is eligible to be reinstated from the IL on Tuesday and may not require a rehab assignment (barring any setbacks).

Yankees' Ben Rice: Not starting Saturday
Rice is not in the Yankees' starting lineup against the Dodgers on Saturday.
Aaron Judge will serve as the Yankees' designated hitter while Jasson Dominguez, Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger start in the outfield. Rice has slashed .230/.293/.446 with three home runs and 10 RBI across 82 plate appearances since the beginning of May.

Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Goes deep in loss Friday
Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Friday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Goldschmidt clubbed the final of four early home runs for New York, swatting a solo shot in the third inning. The long ball snapped a 12-game stretch without a homer for the veteran slugger, though he hit well during that span, batting .350 with a 6:5 BB:K. Goldschmidt has a modest six home runs on the season, putting him on pace to finish below 20 for the first time since the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, but he's otherwise been plenty productive with a .343 batting average (fourth-best in the majors) and .901 OPS.

Yankees' Austin Wells: Lifts ninth homer
Wells went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.
Wells has been decent at the plate lately, going 6-for-27 (.222) with three extra-base hits and four RBI over his last eight games. The catcher continues to see a majority of the playing time behind the plate. His homer Friday was his first since May 12 in Seattle, and he's up to nine long balls on the year. Wells has added a .209/.276/.449 slash line, 32 RBI, 19 runs scored, three stolen bases, nine doubles and a triple across 181 plate appearances.

Yankees' Trent Grisham: Launches homer Friday
Grisham went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.
Grisham has multiple hits in three of his last 10 games, but he's gone just 9-for-38 (.237) in that span. His homer Friday was also his first since he went yard twice in Seattle on May 12. Despite Grisham's recent struggles, he has still frequently hit first or second, though Paul Goldschmidt has also gotten more looks in the leadoff spot, particularly against southpaws. Grisham is batting .259 with an .892 OPS, 13 homers, 26 RBI, 28 runs scored, three doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over 49 contests this season.

Yankees' Aaron Judge: Two extra-base hits in loss
Judge went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a double in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.
Judge has an 11-game on-base streak, going 13-for-38 (.342) with four homers, seven RBI and three doubles in that span. His long ball Friday opened the scoring, and it was the first of four homers for the Yankees in the loss to open the interleague series. For the season, Judge is batting .392 with a 1.236 OPS, 19 homers, 48 RBI, 52 runs scored, four stolen bases, 15 doubles and two triples across 56 contests.

Yankees' Max Fried: Falters late to take first loss
Fried (7-1) allowed six runs on eight hits and struck out three without walking a batter over five-plus innings Friday, taking the loss versus the Dodgers.
Fried entered the sixth inning up 5-2, but he yielded a second solo home run to Shohei Ohtani and wasn't able to recover. Jonathan Loaisiga and Tim Hill failed to stop the bleeding, and the Yankees didn't muster a response later in the game, leaving Fried with an ugly first loss of the campaign. This is the second time he's given up six runs this year, but the first was in his season debut, and only two of them were earned in that outing. Despite Friday's performance, Fried still has a 1.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 70:16 K:BB through 75 innings over 12 starts this season. The southpaw will look to get back on track at home versus the Guardians next week.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Throws bullpen session
Gil (lat) threw a bullpen session Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Manager Aaron Boone said earlier in the week that Gil would begin throwing off a mound Friday if he continued to progress well in his rehab, and it appears the 26-year-old righty is right on schedule. His first bullpen session since spring training saw him throw just 15 pitches, so he still has a long way to go before rejoining the Yankees' rotation. A return timeline may begin to emerge once he's cleared to resume facing hitters.

Yankees' Jasson Dominguez: Idle Friday
Dominguez isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.
Dominguez will grab a seat on the bench Friday after going 1-for-7 with three strikeouts in two games against the Angels. Ben Rice will serve as New York's designated hitter and bat fifth.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Not starting Friday
LeMahieu is not in the Yankees' starting lineup against the Dodgers on Friday.
LeMahieu will be on the bench for the start of Friday's series opener while Jorbit Vivas and Oswald Peraza start at second and third base, respectively. LeMahieu has gone 3-for-26 with two RBI and a 25.0 percent strikeout rate over his last eight games.

Yankees' Spencer Jones: Returns to minor-league action
Jones (intercostal) was activated from Double-A Somerset's 7-day injured list Thursday.
Jones had been out of action since May 3 due to an intercostal injury. In his first game off the IL, the young slugger went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, an RBI and a stolen base for Somerset. Jones has flashed both power and speed in the minors so far this season, tallying nine homers sand seven stolen bases over just 27 games. However, he's batting a modest .242, and strikeouts remain a problem given his 35.3 percent K rate.

Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Could return this weekend
Chisholm (oblique) said after his appearance in Thursday's game with Double-A Somerset that he expects to play only one or two more contests with the minor-league club, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.
Chisholm looked great in the first game of his rehab stint, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs while starting at third base. He mentioned after the contest that Yankees manager Aaron Boone "really wanted me at 3B," so it appears that Chisholm will move to the hot corner upon rejoining the Yankees after making all 28 of his appearances this season at second base prior to getting hurt. If Chisholm is indeed activated from the IL after one or two more rehab games, he could be back in the Yankees' lineup for one or two contests during this weekend's series versus the Dodgers.
